i'm trying to cut down to 152 lbs for the golden gloves, and post-workout i'm 160, so i really watch what i eat, and yea, today when i got home from my workout i wasnt hungry, so i didn't eat dinner, and i waited a few hours and decided to drink a protein shake as a meal replacement, so do protein shakes add fat and are they not good for people trying to cut weight????? or will it just give me lean muscle and cut me up?????
Protien shakes are great for just about any one. if your looking to gain mass it will supply you with the extra protien you need. if your cutting like in your case it alows you to get the protein you need to recover with out the extra fat or carbs that usually come with things like beef ham chicken pork ect. if your not taking abbsurd amounts of protien shake youll probly just get lean muscle and cut up.
If you have a protein shake after training and it's your last meal for the night, you could have a no carb or low carb protein shake as you won't store the any carbs overnight this way. If your trying to cut weight than carbs after dinner should be stamped out, obviously you can take them during the day because your body needs fuel, but carbs lcobsuned late get stored as fat. 8 pounds is alot to lose if that's what you way post workout.. Are you carring around much excess weight?
Real food trumps protein shakes and supplements 100% of the time. You're far better off have some grilled chicken and steamed broccoli or some tuna and spinach than you are having a protein shake. Also, if you're not eating for a few hours after your workouts your body goes into survival mode and basically makes you retain weight. Eat as soon as possible after your workout, even something small like a half a banana. Eat real food whenever you can. Supplements are just that, they should supplement the rest of your nutrition, not replace it.
thanks bro :good and to answer your question, no, i'm not carrying around much access weight, i'm pretty lanky, but my coach told me i could do it, the thing is, pre-workout, i'm like 163, so it would kind of be dumb to fight at 165, seeing as how i don't even weigh that while i'm hanging out with my friends and after a meal, but then 152, is like whoaaaaaaaaa :admin idk, i wish there was a weight class between 152 and 165, any advice?????
First thing, protein shakes are not meal replacements in any way. Second, it's as simple as calories in vs calories out. A protein shake is only around 100 calories if taken with water, with milk a bit more. If you consume more calories than you expend, you'll gain weight. Consume less calories than you expend and you'll lose weight. Simple as that. Don't worry about the silly little made up things like no carbs after 8 o'clock, it's about calorie consumption and that's it.
I disagree, it's not about just calorie consumption. Our bodies process 100 calories worth of sugar very differently than 100 calories of protein.
How tall are you? If you're walking around comfortably at 163 and your pretty lanky then it might be worth changing your body comp and gaining a little extra muscle mass. It wouldn't be easy, but it might be preferable to losing 10 pounds.
If it were that simple nobody would be fat. Burn more than you take in , equals your body compensates by slowing down to conserve energy. That's why people on diets often feel sluggish. IMO, what throws a wrench into this is that we need quantities of nutrients just to maintain, we don't just use food for energy. oh, wow... I also just found this article on that blokes website about how flouride harms teeth. He's a nutjob. http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/fluorideharm.html
Dude, fight at 165. That's where I fight and I weigh 160 in top shape but I get to eat what I want and go in strong. You'll drain yourself making 152, especially since you don't seem to know much about proper dieting and nutrition (no offense).
Virus anymore bits and bats on this topic- i've got a similar problem- i'm actually qualified in nutrition but could do with a few pointers my problem is a sweet tooth... Any good tips?
