I was watching MMA Countdown in regards to Jon Jones and DC.

Jon Jones was 15 pounds over on the 31st and was just about to cut weight in the last 2 days.

Cormier was 16 to 17 pounds over and also starting to cut weight on 31st to make it by the 2nd.

Most boxers cut their weight slowly, and yes at the end have to bite down to get rid of the excess few pounds.

Why the big difference or is it the same for some boxers to get rid of 15 to 20 pounds in 2 days.

That almost seems extreme and dangerous no?

I am not a boxer nor MMA guy, honestly I cannot stand watching guys hug themselves around the ring in MMA, only watching because of Jon Jones and DC rivalry.

    I am not sure

But it seems MMA fighters cut more weight to rehydrate bigger. Since weight is more important in mms than boxing due to the grappling aspect of it.

Ido I also want to know about this

I terms of cutting weight ive heard that wrestlers are the best at it.
    To them size really matters.

Not an expert, but I tend to think being nimble on you feet is not as important in MMA vs boxing. Being a little thicker and rounder may even help to escape from locks and holds.

You're incorrect. Boxers cut weight the same way a lot of MMA guys do. How else do they rehydrate 15-20lb overnight?

MMA fighters just biitch about it more.

Think of having ONE Boxing session in a day and then cutting weight.

Now imagine having THREE DIFFERENT sessions in a day and then cutting weight...

Boxing, on many levels, is so much easier than MMA. From the energy systems that you use/have to train to cutting weight and to recovery.

What do you mean by sessions? Training? There are quite a number of boxers who train more than just once a day.

And would you like to elaborate more on how boxing is easier on "many levels". :fire:D

In terms of energy output, Boxers are only using their hands as 'force'.

MMA'ers are using hands, knees, elbows and legs.

Hit some pads with your hands for a few rounds - can be tiring. Do the same with every limb on your body... EXHAUSTING.

Do those 2 always have to cut that much weight? Is that the norm?

It was a really good fight for 3 rounds but then they both seemed to gas for the 4th and 5th. Is that due to the weight cutting or was it cuz neither of them have to go 5 very often?

Not a big MMA fan at all but i wasnt guna miss that one.
