Besides of former amateur great Alexander Alexeev, Cuban Yoan Pablo Hernandez could turn out to be the next big thing in the CW division which we should call Junior Heavyweight division (like WBO) because - as Haye said - they are punching like HWs... and they are bringing the excitement of the HW history - if the 'real' HWs don't...

Hernandez is still early in his career but has already defeated decent names like Hansvoll, Abdoul and Azzaoui... and now he steps up in competition BIG TIME!

On March 29 (Abraham-Ayala card) he'll face former WBC CW champ Wayne Braithwaite, who, as we know, can really punch, very durable and pretty dangerous for a young talent (or for any champ). Only 3 losses are an UD in a unification fight, a questionable stoppage and another UD loss in a title fight... and KO'd a lot of good challengers as a champ...

That's BIG step-up and I'm looking forward to this great matchup which actually could turn out to be too much for Hernandez at this stage of his career... But if he can win and win big (inside distance or very convincing 12 round victory) he's the next big name in the CW division...

He's very talented but as Persson rightfully points out: he's not that convincing in dominating (fading in rounds) and picks his shots too carefully - simply put: you cannot do that against Braithwaite... so winning that one would be a MAJOR accomplishment, because he HAS to show something really special...

    Great fight!

Umm... am I talking about two nobodies or is it not an interesting match-up at all?

Intriguing fight. I haven't seen Hernandez, but Braithwaite is always dangerous, although he looked shot against Maccarinelli. Excellent test for Hernandez.

I'm surprised Braithewaite took this fight, he's clearly being used as the name opponent here.

I like Braithwaite. I really hope he wins this one and then picks up a decent payday against the winner of Bell-Adamek.

I am keeping an eye on him. Champ material as fas as I can tell.

I felt bad seeing Hansvoll go down like that. He has given us norwegians some entertaining scraps in the past. He actually started knocking people out more towards the end of his career, should have stayed at LHW though.

The weigh-in is over, here are the numbers:

    Yoan Pablo Hernandez 196.2
    Wayne Braithwaite 198.4

    (WBA Fedelatin/WBC Latino cruiserweight titles)

This is the best fight on this weekend an a VERY serious risk for team Hernandez... just to compare it to a recent middleweight upset: it's like Lee facing Castillejo instead of Vera...

I really look forward to this fight!

Hernandez isn't a very good prospect and has put up unimpressive performances against C level fighters, but he will most likely win tomorrow. Braithwaite is past-it and has been looking worse and worse after every loss. What would trouble Hernandez right now is a high output, solid chinned fighter who would go attack him relentlessly and Braitwaite isn't that. His punch output isn't good and he's probably not very motivated for this fight, but he does have the power to knock out Hernandez (who has been hurt before). Braitwaite has very little to no chance of winning a decision against a Sauerland prospect in Germany, the close rounds (there will probably be many) will go to Hernandez. I think the matchup is Hernandez by decision (65%), Hernandez by TKO against an uninspired braithwaite (10%), Braithwaite by TKO (25%).

Braithwaite could very well be a shot fighter. He's a victim of a chin reliant defense and his reflexes looked visibly compromised when I saw him last.

Wayne Braithwaite is a shell of what he used to be. A decent test for any prospect, but I don't consider him very dangerous anymore. This is basically a name opponent for Hernandez. I expect him to win by a wide decision or late TKO.

I consider Hernandez the third best CW prospect behind Eric Fields and Aleksander Alekseev. I think he's more promising than Johnathon Banks.

Tough fight for Hernandez I think. Definately a huge step up all over a sudden.
