Read his statement on Twitter yesterday. Certainly looks like the end of the promotional road for Cyclone, wonder if Channel 5 will stick with them. Cummings is one of Frampton's best pals so it might be out of loyalty to him but all eyes will be on Josh Taylor now for the rest of the year. Shane's stable is disintegrating, only really has Groves and Taylor left.
Lets face it - Shane only has a stable because boxers were told they had to train with them if signing with cyclone - and from that he has got some others like Groves. Without the promotional clout they had he wont be attracting anyone - and people will be put off with all the negative press cyclone are getting
I think Cyclone are in dire financial state and it wouldn't surprise me if they owe Frampton a considerable amount of money. I am not surprised Cummings has left as from Cyclones point of view he was a decent boxer to put on zFramptons shoes. Now Taylor is thete headline it's Scottish based fighters they will want under Taylor, makes perfect business sense. Hence why Bakole and Easton have signed with them. Wouldn't surprise me if more Scottish based fighters followed.
This sounds risky, it really does. I have always liked the McGuigans but in reality Taylor has already made a name for himself, I will be surprised if he is still there in a year or two. I like the opportunity this may present for Scottish fighters but realistically it doesn't add up. Especially if there are financial uncertainties.
The Channel 5 deal was for two years apparently so it still has a few months left on it. It would be a shame if regular boxing on the channel was lost due to promotional troubles.
Of course it is. Big issue is there are not enough fight dates with channel 5 to build regular big fight nights in different areas of the country with a big local headline act. If channel 5 renew with them they might be best doing 12 shows a year, 6 on channel 5 and 6 on YouTube, could charge £5 for YouTube bills or stream them free and have adverts between rounds etc as that would properly get big viewing figures and plenty of revenue through adverts, sponsorship. One thing for sure in this day and age you need to be averaging at least 1 show a month to build a successful promotional stable.
Frampton vs Quigg PPV bombed and the cancelled fight with Gutierrez...shows how fickle boxing can be when just 1-2 failures can crash what was seeming to be a successful promotional outfit.
I'm superstitious when it comes to major change in a fighter's setup and Taylor's at a critical point in his career. It would be foolish to jump ship or otherwise halt his momentum, the money will come. It's more important to keep the train rolling until he's closer to the finished article as a pro. That's assuming the ch5 deal keeps rolling too. As for Cummings, it's a shame but understandable. In terms of the impact on Cyclone, he was fun to watch but always felt with his style it wouldn't be long before he started getting hurt and stopped in fights. Hope he proves me wrong.
Tayloe needs to go and now. This outfit was purely bankrolled by Frampton, who they have left out of pocket. This kind of **** always happens to boxers. The big mistake was signing on as a director at Cyclone, probably didn't have the business nous to know that he would be financially accountable for the company. That's is why you have to rate Mayweather, what he has done business wise is remarkable.
One thing I am not liking with Cyclone is the fact the moment a fighter leaves them they also lose their trainer, that's not right. Trainers should always stay out of promotional side of things, well as long as they are getting their cut.
Exact same thing would happen if OD or Conor Benn for example left Matchroom. They'd end ties with Tony Sims too.
I don't think it would bother hearn if Tony still trained them. There's fighters who train out of Matchroom gym who are not Matchroom fighters
Cummings isn't a big loss and was only there as Framptons pal, in the bbc documentary BM basically said he was lucky they didn't cut him loose after his loss. also think the anti Cyclone and pro MTK crap on twitter is poor
