Roy jones power was totally overrated. Benn and the Gman. Those guys had power. Id favor Jones over Dm by decision. Dm has a better chin tho.
Did Bodhi really say DM was as past it vs Gonzalez as Jones was against Green? It's more like He was as past it as Jones was against Tarver II.
A direct quote from the man himself :yep I'm starting to collect them now, within a year I should have 20 or 30 of those diamonds
1. Of course I am a hypocrite. I´m human. We all are. 2. Rocchigiani didn´t pull out. Jones Jr. cancelled it when Rocky didn´t want to break up his training camp in Europe to attend a press conference in NY, instead he was there with a live connection. Saying if Rocky doesn´t show up for the conference he probably won´t show up for the fight. Jones pussied out. 3. Somebody has to balance out your agenda. :thumbsup Yes, I did. It was part of a longer debate, not with PP, and a longer post and I used the stylistic device of exaggeration to illustrate a point. So, you starting to have a file on me and my post? That means you put work and thoughts in somebody you disagree with on the internet but you don´t actually know? Wow, that´s pathetic.
I was one letter off, sorry Mr. perfect. Jones was a gifted athlete and thats why he could make that unorthodox style work so well. No way Jones was as one dimensional as DM either.
Yes, he was. He didn´t look as one-dimensional because due to his athleticism he didn´t need to be as conservative with that he did - and DM had a very conservative "European" style - but that doesn´t mean he wasn´t. But I´m open. Tell me what made Jones more dimensional than DM. DM was a pressure-fighter and I can´t remember him fighting different in the fights I´ve seen. Similar for Jones. He was a counterpuncher who made his opponent lead and then used movement and reflexes to stay out of harm and his speed to land first. Yes, he ofught differently at times. When he had a totally outclassed opponent in front of him. That´s not what I would understand as having more dimensions though.
Jones could box from the outside, he could slug and brawl and he was good at all of them. DM was one speed forward.
Richard Hall Bryant Brannon Montell Griffin Vinnie Pazienza All his opponents were outclassed. He even mixed it up with Ruiz at times.
Yes but he showed the ability to fight more than one way. Thats the point. He could approach different fighters different ways, which is the sign of a complete fighter. Of course he would be more cautious with a dangerous puncher or a slick counterpuncher than he would be with a guy who only knows one way to fight. DM was more in the category of only knowing one way to fight.
Sometimes one dimensional fighters still beat those who are multifaceted. Not that I believe this to be the case here but it happens often. And anyone mentioning Richard Hall, Bryant Brannon or that lightweight roid rager Pazienza in the same sentence as DM is just ****ing crazy.
I think DM is a lot better than people remember tallying some good, dominant wins of his own. But I think Jones would probably pull it off a lot harder than people think. Not that its particularly relevant, but I think DM beats any version of Tarver, Johnson, Clinton Woods, or Adamek, i.e. any of the other heavyweights of this era.
