Honestly, Wilder's hype is probably as big as Joshua used to be. The difference is that Joshua beat a few quality opponents before his first loss. Wilder so far fought two elite fighters in Fury and Ortiz. Fury beat him by majority observers and Ortiz was old and unproven himself, he gave him great fight too. Maybe Wilder is really that special, but he's far from proven at this point. We don't know much about him even though he's old and fought almost 50 fights because most of his career was about fighting nobodies. But yeah, he's modern days Bob Fitzsimmons. Even though Fitzsimmons beat 2 better fighters than any Wilder's opponent within 2 weeks.
They only compare that they both have great right hand power. That’s it. (At least so far). Hearns was by far the better “boxer”...great jab, movement when he had to, defense etc.
Hearns was far more accurate and had much better balance if he missed he was usually in position to throw another shot, Wilder throws one shot at a time if he miises he is off balance and has to regroup ,and is very sloppy. He makes Max Baer look clever!
Never got this one. First off, they're not even the same style. Wilder is a slugger, Hearns is a boxer-puncher. This should already be where the comparison ends. Wilder's strengths are the insane power in his right hand and size. Of late, Wilder has seriously improved with his straight right. Hearns' strengths start at his footwork, the textbook movement he displayed when he needed it is brilliant, and he also used the angular positioning of the way he stalked his opponents to set up his power shots and pin them down. Hearns' left hand was wicked, like literally P4P top 3... ever. The jab was unbelievable, he outboxed ATGs like Leonard & Benitez with it. He used it to perfectly dominate range, control his opponents' head from the outside and set up his cross. He also found the perfect amount of jabs to throw. Hearns' left hook was also awesome, the body shots he'd pick at range were pretty devastating, and a key part in the Hitman's arsenal. Wilder, does none of this. Wilder and Hearns only compare when it comes to 3 things: #1, Power. #2, massive dimensions for their weight, which they use to get torque. #3, both are fragile. Tommy's workrate dwarf's Wilder's too. Tommy would pepper guys with his jab and flurried occasionally, whilst Wilder hardly throws anything. Sooooo long story short; the comparison, stylistically, is a **** one.
I don't see many similarities either. Wilder is probably unique in some ways. He has power and unlike most power punchers he doesn't lose power as the fight progresses. He has amazing foot speed, forward, backward, and left and right. He does transfer his weight when he punches, but again he does it unconventionally. When he hooks he transfers the weight to his rear foot, but he might bring the front foot off the ground, same with the right hand, he transfers the weight to the left foot but he might bring the right foot off the ground. It gives him power but most couldn't get away with doing it, his length, height, and quickness have allowed him to get away with it so far. As far as conventional boxing, jabbing, probing for openings, he just doesn't participate. I'm not sure a great jab would affect him because he might just take himself out of range and lose rounds while he waited for his opponent to make a mistake such as bringing his jab back low. From what I have seen of Wilder, he just fights a different fight than anybody I've seen before. He is relaxed, patient, and confident. So far it's worked...I've never seen another fighter so confident in his power and athletic ability that he doesn't mind losing rounds. I saw a guy fight as an amateur that Wilder fought early in his career. The guy was probably 6-4, 240 and although not that polished, he was tough and strong. I would have thought he could do rounds with anybody. When I saw the pro result and Wilder knocked him out early in the first round, I suspected that Wilder might be "unusual." I don't think Wilder is unbeatable, but he is different.
Wilder keeps on winning and the haters keep on coming..... He might win or he might loose against fury but one thing is as sure as death and taxes.....he will put the Bodybuilder on life support, he will never get the chance to spit his mouth piece out and quit, he will take the 100 count nap.
Similar lanky stile .Both big punchers Hearns is a better boxer obviously.Wilder better chin both have good stamina.Wilder should try and develop a better jab copy Tommy .Wilder like hearns is a very dangerous proposition for any opposition.
I think so far Wilder's chin seems decent, it certainly isn't china. Ortiz in the first fight had him badly rocked, but it's heavyweight boxing, it happens, plus he recovered pretty well. I always thought Hearns was a bit fragile, it was just his physical and technical gifts, plus the ability to put his opponents lights out, meant it wasn't tested as much as it might have been.
There is no comparison. A overrated media creation whom don't know how to use a jab properly Your on point with this , especially when he returned to his "Hitman " mind set after a few yrs of being the "Motor City Cobra" after the Leonard loss. I thought he played right into Hagler's trap, and actually gave Hagler his best chance to win. Also the 1st Barkley fight after tattooing Barkley for a few rounds.
