I thought going into tonight Teo had enough speed to give Shakur some problems. The first two rounds it looked that way but then Shakur started adjusting and timing Teo and it was a wrap. My question is why don’t guys like Teo and Canelo go with a tested trainer like Rober Garcia? Surely they’ve seen other talented boxers completely stall because they stayed with their dad. What other fighters out there could really take off from changing trainers and what trainers actually help adapt.

I don't buy all of that

Sr trained him as a kid
Until I think 95 when he got incarcerated
    Floyd Jr started in 96

I think the early part of Floyd career would go the same regardless

Dads as trainers is fine as long as said dad isn’t a complete bellend.

like with everything else in boxing, there are levels to dad trainers. shakurs granddad must be real good because shakur has impeccable fundamentals. his only weakness is that he doesn't commit to his punches enough, which affects his power. but if he did that then his defensive positioning would suffer some. he needs to find the balance where he stays responsible but tries to inflict max damage in the right situations.
teos dad on the other hand, dksab. hes lucky his kid is a physical specimen that can do something with bad instructions. i posted this last week about the teo teams ability to prep and strategize.

First off, reaching world level is…pretty good.

Secondly, to some of these guys the sense of loyalty and bond may matter more than maximizing their boxing potential.

I don’t think there was a way for Teo to beat Shakur after seeing how the fight played out.. As many said or suspected, Teo just can not lead, and when someone doesn’t leave themselves open to counters and manipulates pace and distance as well as Shakur… He just aint got it… Extremely talented, but he is reliant on twitchy counter punching.

He looked downright awkward at times trying to step in with his punches.

Disagree. Roger was much more offensive minded. He made Floyd a complete fighter.
