In the card opener, Ashish Kumar just defeated Sohit Rameshwar by UD in a super welterweight four rounder that was both men's pro debut.

 

Shivam Sharma vs. Shubham Chauhan, 4 rounds @ super bantamweight

 

19 year old Shivan Sharma is off to a chaotic and disastrous 0-2 start in his professional career - debuted in April of last year at flyweight and got sparked in two minutes flat, then returned ten months later at featherweight and got stopped in four rounds.

And yet, looking at him in there with the 1-7-1 veteran Shubham, it's clear he's the far more talented and poised fighter. He dropped Shubham thrice in the first round but the referee apparently ruled them all slips. We're talking clear knockdowns too - flush hook, kerplunk - but still waved off as nothing. I think maybe this ref doesn't understand the job.

 

Finally the ref gives Shubham a standing eight, after no-calling what should have been a combined 7 or 8 knockdowns already for Shivam.

Even the commentators (speaking mostly in Hindi or whatever, with occasional interspersions of broken English) were starting to be like "uhh...knockdown?"

 

I'm not sure which is the bigger surprise - that Shivam looks so good for his record, or that Shubham's isn't 0-9. How on earth did this chinny little bouncing-ball muppet manage a win and a draw?

 

Ref docked a point from Shubham for excessive holding in the fourth. I think it's at this point academic that he's taking an L - but if all those knockdowns were scored it would now be a truly comical points total. We're talking 40-27 or so.

(in a lot of commissions he would have been stopped on a 3 KD rule)

Wow! So, amazingly, the ref in fact wasn't the least competent official in the, ahem, "building".

Factoring in the single official knockdown and the point deduction that card reading 37-37 means one judge gave Shubham three rounds?

 

Jitendra Thakur vs. Rohan Rameshwar, 6 rounds @ super lightweight

 

Jitendra carrying his arms low, winding his elbows out a few inches behind his back and just launching straight line drive rockets at the face of Rohan. Nothing artful, completely telegraphed, just absolute faith in his awkward style, speed and physicality.

 

Such delightfully low quality garbage.
