Holyfield's career and accomplishments were padded. Gee, if there is a guy that was put in a lion's cage early was Evander, what was that pro debut of his against a tough jorneyman?

    Your mate speaks the truth.

Three divisions - lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight -- IS actually how it all began.

And, given the number of four, five and six division champions there have been since moving the weigh-ins back a full day before fights, he isn't entirely wrong.

Create a new limit for Lightweight and Middleweight ... say 140 and 180 or whatever ... and make the weigh-ins an hour or so before the card begins ... and I'd be for it. Guys like Beterbiev were fighting as heavyweights a decade or more ago in the amateurs anyway.

Canelo won titles from 154 to 175. Crawford from 135 to 147 ... and he wants to fight Canelo next at 168. Inoue from 108 to 122 ... and he wants to fight up to 135. Not to mention everyone from Duran winning belts from 135 to 160, Leonard from 147 to 175, Hearns from 147 to whatever and on and on.

It's not like Devin Haney actually weighs 135 when the bell rings. He's freaking in his 150s.

What's really so special about winning belts from 135 to 154, for example, if you were in the 150s when you got in the ring the whole time anyway?

Should there really be like 35 or 40 champions below 140? Seriously.

Make weigh-ins just before the fight ... match Inoue with some top guy who actually weighs 135 on fight night (because Haney sure as hell couldn't ... he looks like a walking skeleton at weigh-ins) ... and there's your WORLD champ at Lightweight, for starters.

Match Bud Crawford with the Charlo-Canelo winner, there's your middleweight champ, for starters.

Beterbiev, Opetai welcome to the heavyweights.

The sport wouldn't collapse if there weren't 40 champs (like Stephen Fulton) below 140.

There are far too many divisions and far too many orgs. There doesn't have to be four champions (or even one) every three or four pounds.

I should go drinking with your friend. We'd get along fine.;)

Some of the things I remember from this forum:

I asked how a prime Camacho vs. De La Hoya would go. People said there’s no reason to ask that because they fought in the late 90s. DLH might win, but that fight with THAT version of Camacho is the reason why?

I said prime Simon Brown wins a tough fight against a prime Miguel Cotto. People got offended or thought I was trolling to hate on Cotto.

Someone said the judge scoring Mayweather-Canelo a draw wasn’t bad scoring because it was so close.

I think Max Kellerman or someone picked Joe Calzaghe over Michael Spinks at 175. I said this was ridiculous and people said I was just biased against UK fighters.

You think Simon Brown was a better fighter than Cotto, or you feel like Brown would have Cotto's number ?

You make some interesting and thought provoking points. There are indeed too many divisions in my opinion, although I think that three would n't be enough. Nine would be a good balance I think - Heavy,Cruiser,Light Heavy,Middle,Welter,Light,Feather,Bantam and Fly. This question is worthy of a thread in itself.

Include me, please! I'd fit right in with you two!

I'd actually start getting very interested in lower weight class boxing!
