did Mundine ever say he despised white people? Or did he just make uneducated comments but with good intentions ?
It's helped him earn millions in the ring but how will it effect him once he retires with such a negative public opinion.
Mundine has pissed me off so much over the years but I kind of felt for the guy after getting knocked on his ass repeatedly the other night. He showed heart, its a shame he never knew the meaning of humility. A real wasted talent. I was glad to see he made no excuses and gave Clottey his props.
Mundine demonstrated heart in spades the other night and offered no excuses afterward. But the damage is already done. How he behaved before & after his loss to Geale is just typical of how poor his behaviour has been in the past. He can blame nobody for the public's almost universal dislike for him but himself.
He will make excuses in his retirement doco like DGreen. Although the fight was so one sided he can't exactly claim robbery. He increased the popularity of boxing and maybe got a few kids to put on the gloves and lead a healthier lifestyle.
the bad guy image was good for the start of his career but he could of easily turned nice guy and changed his image as his career progressed and not only would it gain national support but might even open international doors for him in terms of big fights. He has only him self to blame for how he is perceived in the Australian media, regardless if he is a nice guy at heart, he should of played the Danny green card along time ago.
I'm going to probly cop some **** here but the only time choc hasn't been gracious in defeat is after geale 2, before or after that in defeat or victory he wasn't rude/disrespectful to his opponents. People's opions on him were decided a long time ago and it won't matter what he does or says it won't change.
Mundine chose the villain role for himself very early in his career by trying to copy the early Ali with his brashness and trash talking. Ali's career had already played out by then and as we know he went from being considered a loudmouth upstart early days to a universally acknowledged legend of the sport, and a whole lot more into the bargain. Mundine plainly thought at some point along the way people would start embracing him like they had Ali. But he's now come to the realisation that is never going to happen for him and his frustration is evident. What Mundine didn't factor is Ali talked the talk AND walked the walk.
Mundine was heavily influenced by Ali mainly for Ali's ability to turn the spotlight on the oppression by the white man over the black man in the States. So much so that he chose to be a muslim as did Ali. They both used trash talk but for two entirely different reasons. Ali used trash talk initially to get a crack at the only Heavy weight title that existed, Listons. In those days being a top contender did not mean you got a crack at the title, it was more a case of what the public and Mafia demanded. As he progressed Ali used Trash talk to get inside his opponents head and never stopped once the microphones were gone. He constantly goaded opponents, sometimes for the entire fight. Mundine's use of trash talk was to put bums on seats and selling PPVs. Ali's dis interest in money is legendry. Mundine never ever cared if you cheered or booed as long as the general public were watching him fight and talking about him. He certainly went over the top against Geale, he knew he was up against a vastly improved fighter than the first fight and his own skills were rapidly declining. He was virtually giving excuses for losing before they were even in the ring. My view is Mundine couldn't give 2 ****s about the general public's opinion on him, He will remain controversial and outspoken long after he retires.
I think he farked up flicking Alan Jones after his first fight and taking on Khoder Nasser. Jones would have ensured him a popular road to the top and possibly educated the guy.
