Spare a thought for Fresh Promotions, who have emerged from nowhere, probably blown a huge chunk of their budget on winning the purse bid for their prized asset, only to watch him get obliterated by an underdog behind an obscure paywall. What a sport.

I’m sure Hennessy and Shalom will be reaching out to Juan, emphasising lessons learned and future opportunities.

Meanwhile Eddie probably just sent them a wreath, while parading around in his freshly won WBC strap.

Historically, promoters only stayed in business by offloading the loss onto the fighters themselves. So if you’re going to feel for anyone, feel for Matías – he likely absorbed the hits both in and out of the ring.

Edit: Then again, Puerto Ricans are pretty street-wise. Wouldn’t shock me if Orengo has run Fresh like a textbook long firm and he and Matías are heading home like ballers, waving at the balance sheet in the rear-view mirror to some financial institution or backer ala King and Warren.

If only 6 champions (double it even, say 12) it’s an abysmal figure to claim a certain ethnic background has a specific specialism in the sport, quite the opposite if they are an ethnic background who enjoy the sport.
And by the looks of it, that’s including travellers and gypsies.

They think they’re hard but their fighting stances are crap and the only reason they can keep going is because there’s no brain cells to knock out in the first place.

In all seriousness I’ve always thought gypsy boxers waste too much energy with unnecessary feinting.

Smaller population than who? Puerto Rico? Cuba? For “fighting people” with it in their culture, sure aren’t much success coming from them

May be able to tango well (isn’t that in a ballroom not a ring) n be ruff n ready, but the statistics say they are not achieving much in the fight game.

it may just be that they WANT to be fighters, TALK like fighters, but just generally fail at it?

you seem to have met a few, unfortunately mauricio Suleman has only met less than a handful.

Who on earth is this plonker?!!

    he’s pm’ing tooo lol lmao.

    IGNORE

The only ethnic background who has been discussed as a fighting people are travellers, so we’re talking about travellers.

Indians, Puerto Ricans, Cubans etc don’t claim to be fighting people. Probs have more important things in life than pretending to be hard

Finally got around to watching this. Brilliant from Smith. I imagine that Puello will be next as he’s mandatory but Smith should be looking to fight the winner of Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez although he’d probably make more coin fighting Azim at Hillsborough.

Looking back at the whole situation before the fight , I think Matchroom have let Dalton down a bit from him taking years to actually getting a world title shot and then the whole peds issue with Mathias just before the fight, then Matchroom losing the purse bids to a nobody promotion..

So all the cards were stacked against Dalton to begin with going to NY basically his backyard as NY has a massive Puerto Rican community , best believe also Dalton knew if this fight went to the scorecard he was getting robbed.

No wonder from the first bell Dalton went straight to the middle of the ring and started to land big bombs on Mathias he wasn't letting this go the distance lol

Big props to Dalton and his dad .. Eddie trying to take all the credit is just sad , after letting your fighter down like that ..
