I came across the sport Dambe some years ago while looking into foreign combat sports. It's Nigerian Boxing for lack of a better term. Recently I began looking into Dambe again for it's lore and any historical significance it may have in relation to western boxing. I've not found much historically, but I was pretty pleased to find they're on Youtube now: This content is protected I think it's interesting because it's mostly posture fighting. Boxing has a ton of posturing theory as well and I think it's cool to see it work in the exact same manner in such a different sport. Of course I watch a ton of sports for the same reason...even Sumo has some parallels with boxing. Also, look at how very similar to Wilder they all fight. I mean sure he's a pro HW boxer and they're dudes in jean shorts, but the fundamental theories are there. I wonder if his Nigerian descent has anything to do with it or if it's just anecdotal serendipity. The idea in Dambe is the unwrapped hand is your shield and and the wrapped your spear. Very similar to Spartan military boxing with your primary hand emulating your sword and off hand emulating your shield. Either way, crude as it looks and as superficial as the connection may be, in a weird way a Dambe style fighter is one of the current HW champions.
