Brilliant stuff - congrats to Damien and all who've helped him along the way.

Pic below from the gold medal fight against Colombian Juan Carlos Carrilo, whom he beat 12-4.

I've followed this kid since last years worlds. at 17 he was the only oz fighter to make it out of the second round. he was green as grass. less than 12 months later (i think its less than twelve months - i think september) he's improved out of sight. the ais has finally realised if our fighters are to compete with the worlds best amateurs they must spend 4-5 months of the year overseas. those couple of months in cuba have seen all of the boys on both the A and B squads improve. we just dont have the competion or the amount of fights in this country. you look at the euro fighters they can fight some of the best fighters in the world every weekend - they end up with 2-300 fights on their resume. although i dont think the oz boys had official fights in cuba, the sparing was hardcore. i believe there is a suggestion that they'll spend several weeks in cuba every year

^ I think that is a must if they want to improve on our results at international events.

I mean they will have to fork out a bit of dosh for that but Id rather my tax $ go there prime ministerial budgie smugglers.
