everyone has to put in the same paperwork for the AIS, i had qualifyed and there was a minor technicality with my age that needed to be verifyed before i could be accepted, if your getting a phone call from the AIS then its a sure thing ur being offerd a position there based on your paperwork, age being regulated in the sport was the minor technicality, i was out by one year i think it was and why would i make up bullsht like that? id been trying to get into the AIS for the past 2 yrs during that time you moron, go back to your notes in that book ur writing about me.

Olympic national boxing teams are TEAMS. It's an important part of sports psychology, no athlete in the world is lacking a team. Look at how close the Ukrainian boxing team is and they're winning everything.

You were likely rung up so that you wouldn't waste their time submitting any more applications. All you had next to your name was a Riverina title 15 years earlier and you thought that'd impress them. If you weren't considered the previous 2 years, what makes you think they were about to select you? Are you sure it wasn't just your mates taking the ****?

 

no one walks in the ring with you its true - its a lonely sport. but that is exactly why you try to build a team environment - a sense that your not alone. whether you are part of an olympic team or part of Team ... fill in the blank.
Ty why do you think they call themselves Team Mayweather or Team Pacquiao etc etc.? yes a fighter walks into the ring alone but a good support staff makes him feel that that is only time he feels that way
its the same reason coaches always say 'WE" when referring to the fighter - as in WE had a really good camp or WE are fighting him next - boxing is a lonely sport but tis also one for which success is largely dependent on psychological edges

There is a hell of a lot more to this story than what is in the press, and hooper has been given plenty of chances, more than what he probably should have been. do you really think our best hope for boxing medal since Jarrod Fletcher would be suspended for 1 action?
