Silva's theatrics and the disappointments felt at him not finishing the fight aside, the reality remains Maia was one of only a couple of guys at 185 that pose ANY threat to him at all.

In fact, Damien Maia had a better chance of winning than Vitor. Vitor has t-rex arms and no kicks and would struggle to even hit Anderson imo. At least Maia has one aspect of his game that is way superior to Anderson and thus a real chance at winning.

While I tend to agree it needs a good wrstler to beat Silva, he has shown he can be taken down by Hendo and still win. Really, its a struggle to see how he can lose.

I know you all hated that fight, but the strongest impression I got from it was 'how the f'k is this guy going to lose?' Maia took down Chael so logic tells you he has at leat some chance of getting Silva to the ground at some stage.

The fighter who can beat Silva isn't out there right now. Not at 185. Dan Hendo, a little younger with a pure wrestling mindset is the closest I can think of. I want to see him fight Sonnen, but wouldn't be surprised if it was another one sided beatdown. In the words of the wise sage Rogan, Anderson is 'just that good'.

I disagree, He hasn't fought anybody at 185 with very good standup like Belfort has. I think belfort has a good chance at beating him especially because Anderson is so afraid of getting hit that a UD isn't out of the question. Not to mention after watching Sonnen tool Marquardt for 3 rounds that he can be a threat and at least push Anderson and make him fight.

Are you an alias who makes seemingly nonsensical, 'cryptic' posts that bear no relation to the thread? If so, I kind of like it!

I think Anderson is pretty good at defending gnp. He's so long and awkward on the ground and his guard is pretty good at stalling at the least. Hendo couldn't do much. Though I agree I'd like to see him fight Sonnen, just 'coz Sonnen is such a great wrestler and at least (like Maia) has something over Silva. I was also impressed with the way Sonne just PUSHED Okami for every second and beat him up. However that might be an invite for a brutal KO vs SIlva.

Maybe but I think Sonnen will take him down, but after taking Silva down he is still a threat off his back and nobody has really done much damage against him when they had him down. The best case for Sonnen would be to manage a points win and avoid getting subbed, but I think Belfort could challenge Silva on his feet, when's the last time Anderson fought a guy with great standup?
