Sheesh, this is silly. Yes, Canelo attempted to roll the punch. Yes he took some bite off of the punch. But you need to understand the point of rolling with a punch. It's a sequence, diminish the impact of the blow, reduce impact time, over-extend target, reduce start-up time on your counter punch, deliver your counter-punch to the open/extended target.

In this sequence, he certainly tried to make it work, but his roll wasn't fast enough, so all he accomplished was the "reducing damage" portion of the roll sequence.

What really sucks is that people that are praising it don't realize that the roll has an inherent risk and reward that is wildly unbalanced at the low-mid level use. You always give up the hit in the punch count and in the judge's eyes. The pay off only exists on the counter-punch and in the quality of the counter-punch. Seeing as all he did was flail afterwards, it really is just canelo getting punched in the face, seemingly caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He tried to roll that punch, and was punished for it.

On the topic of being feather-fisted. Get off it. Mayweather doesn't have stopping power. He never needed it, his skill offsets the need for absolute stopping power and allows him to get by with average power that he uses to offset the opponent, effectively forcing adjustments that fall into his traps.

What I am always surprised by is how many people don't realize how often Floyd brings a knife to a gun fight and wins. That SHOULD at least get a little respect, but around here, there's a disproportionate amount of savages that only applaud violence and brute force.
