Gamboa forgot about blocking. I mean at his best he was a peek-a-boo style fighter. Without him blocking his head, he's become an easy target. In his prime he knew when to block and when to punch. Now he's just walking into punching range with his hands down, and he's essentially become just an average brawler. He should never have abandoned his original style, which was peek-a-boo, knowing when to block and when to punch.

I really think it's more mental discipline than anything, he's still got good punching power, good speed for his age, and he has a decent chin, but it's just that he's letting himself get hit with shots that he shouldn't be getting hit with, becuase he's not keeping his hands up. He's getting too anxious in there trying to land a big punch. If he is continue, he's got to get back to his bread and butter, hands up when coming in, getting inside, then landing his punches. He did parry a right hand with his left in this fight, but in general just not enough upright blocking with both hands.

He must have been hurt. He was knocked down twice and was a little wobbly following the 2nd knockdown. He did seem to get his legs back under him, but obviously something was wrong. He may want to move up in weight, as apparently he had a difficult time making weight and nearly feinted after the weigh-in. It may have been a combination of having a difficult time making weight, and then getting hit with some big shots and getting knocked down twice. When you're already less than 100% making weight, then you take that kind of punishement, he may have been unhealthy to begin with and just exhausted after those 7 grueling rounds.

Once those types of fighters start losing their reflexes the wheels come of quick.

Yes, he was hurt early. Go to 25:30, near the end of the 7th round where the quit. He didn't seem hurt there or all that exhausted. Castellanos throw a flurry and hit his body a couple times and then he quit in his corner.

Gamboa is done. He can't make 130 safely, and I don't think he can compete at 135 against the elite because he's too small and too wreckless, so he might as well retire or risk becoming a gate keeper at some point.

Castellanos isn't near as bad as his record indicates. That said, it was an odd quit, although I did think Gamboa was going to get himself KO'd shortly so not that big of a deal. He was hurt bad at the end of that seventh...

Who cares, Gamboa was finished years ago. Even before Crawford, he was a shred of himself after all the layoffs and getting connected to the PED clinic in Miami.

I don't blame him, the fighters know more than everyone else. He was done I reckon.

He should retire, he had a good career, nothing more to prove. He'll probably go down borderline hof.

Gamboa is 35. Give him a break. The lighter you are the tougher it is to compete as you age, because it comes down to speed, not power.
