Out of the 3 of Cotto, Pac and Shane Cotto matches up the best. If PBF beat Cotto out of these 3 he would get the most credit in that win. Pac too small and Shane too old would be the excuses after those fights.
I don't buy the "Shane too old" crap. If he's good enough to still be at the top level and, he's good enough for PBF to get credit for beating him. Yeah, he's not as good as he was 10 years ago, but still.....
I wouldn't give him that much credit and I'm a Floyd fanatic. We're talking about the same dude El Terible played with in their 1st fight and Morales isn't half as slick as Floyd.
You can't please everyone. Someone is bound to complain no matter who he fights. However, the Pac fight is the one that people in general want to see the most. And Mosley isn't perfect. Mosley is 38, he needed steroids to get a gift decision over a guy Floyd beat clearly, he was outboxed by a guy in Cotto who is nowhere near the boxer that Floyd is, and he struggled terribly with Mayorga. I simply don't get fight fans sometimes. You can only fight one guy at a time. As long as these guys are fighting top fighters in fights that the public wants to see, there should be no complaints.
Cotto is a strong body puncher, and he cuts the ring off very well. He has dealt with speed before, Malignaggi, Judah, and Mosley. In these fights he neutralized there speed with a perfectly timed jab. I think the best set of tools to beat Mayweather are with Cotto. Mosley will try and box Floyd, and no one can outbox Floyd. I cant remember Pac ever fighting a slick fighter like Floyd. Floyd is on another level when it comes to these type of slick, textbook boxer types; but Cotto has faced the closest in this comparison.
If Floyd fights and beats any of these three (Pac, Cotto or Mosely) or even a Margarito he should be given full credit for fighting the top guys at WW (applicable to PAC if he beats Cotto). Now should he beat someone like a Paul Williams or a Kelly Pavlik he would solidify his legacy and rightfull spot besides guys like Sugar Ray Leonard and Ali.
We all have our opinions. But, if Pac beats Cotto, then I couldnt care less about the fight between Floyd and Cotto.
Cotto is too vulnerable for uppercuts. Both Pac and Mayweather could really do damage to Cotto with uppercuts at all angles. He has a better shot vs Pac then Mayweather though as they both have the same reach at 67 inches. PBF on the other hand has 72 inch reach. The only reason the Pac vs Cotto fight would be competitive is we don't know if Pac could handle Cotto's power at this weigh. While PBF IMO would be more then able to. Especially the build he desplayed vs JMM, it doesn't seem like Cotto would have any type of size advantage over PBF. If Cotto could get caught by Margo's punches then how the hell would he be able to stop Pac's or PBFs. Pac vs Cotto comes down to if Cotto could land something to hurt Pac and take over the fight. Or will Pac lay a smack down on Cotto using his speed while avoiding his shots. Cotto vs PBF there is no real reason for me to believe that Cotto could beat PBF other then a punchers chance. The outcome will be the same as PBF vs DLH at 154 and that would be Cotto at his best. The worst outcome would be PBF vs Gatti.
If Mayweather beats Pacquiao, it's because he's too small. If he beats Cotto, he's already lost to Margarito, and many will claim he lost to Mosley. If he beats Mosley, he's already lost to Cotto, and struggled with Mayorga. If he beats Williams, he's already been out-boxed by Carlos Quintana. People will always come up with excuses, and these are probably the basics people will use whoever he should fight & beat.
