We've had a number of threads about how Pavlik should agree to a 50/50 purse split with Paul Williams. However, there are a number of problems with that assertion.

There was no recent discussion of

on the purse, the gate, or the endorsement money between the fighters or promoters. That is not what Goosen demanded. He demanded

    co-promotion of

Top Rank World Champion in the main event. Goosen said the fight will never happen unless Arum agrees to that.

Kelly Pavlik would have every right to tell Bob Arum to make

    deal for an equal

on the purse, the gate, and/or the endorsements. He does not have the right to tell Arum how to run Top Rank, and therefore, he does not have the power to accept

co-promotion on behalf of Top Rank Incorprated.

Goosen's demand took all negotiating power away from Pavlik. In addition, Goosen demanded something Arm told him "no" to 6 months ago. Nothing has happened to change Arum's mind, and Goosen knew that when he made his demand. When was the last time Arum gave another promoter 50% control over

Top Rank World Champion in the main event?

In a nutshell, Goosen made a move that took away Pavlik's ability to negotiate, and then demanded something he knew full well Arum would not agree to.

I know this is repetitive, but these are the facts, and there are numerous people around here who do not seem to know the difference between a purse split and a co-promotion.

Williams shouldn't be in there with Pavlik. If I were his people I'd try and get him out of the whole deal too.

Trust me when I tell you that Dan Goossen wants Paul Williams to fight Kelly Pavlik BADLY. Dan just wants things his way and is a tough negotiator. If he thinks he is being fair, there is no way he will back down.

Arum may have to give a little, but if he does then the fight will happen. I assure you it has absolutely nothing to do with him afraid to put Williams in the same ring as Kelly.

    Pavlik isn't "star" anymore!

Right after the Taylor fight yes he had "star" status but since then he has done nothing in terms of what a "star" is suppose to do!!! Pavlik barely sold 4K in his home town!:verysad

Please explain the relationship between your comments, and the situation at hand. There isn't one, unless you're claiming that Goosen demanded co-promotional rights over a fighter who can't sell tickets. How much sense would that make?

A point well made. Williams deserves better -- though just to take the fight and KO Pavlik once and for all seems to be in order.

I wouldn't call that "protecting", in all honesty. He's keeping his fighter away from KP now, maybe. But Williams never had any duty to be fighting KP in the first place. It was basically a gift to Pavlik all along - an easy win against a big name for a decent pay-day.
