A couple of caveats there, Pimp. Floyd avoided Pac till he was well past his best. The Pac that Floyd faced was a far cry from the fighter of the decade who destroyed Hatton and Cotto in a fashion Floyd could only dream of. ( The fact that Floyd was older has nothing to do with the point either. Lewis was older than Tyson when they fought but one was still prime and the other was years past best. BHop was five years older than RJJ when they met the second time, but still closer to his prime than was Roy. ) And that's without even getting into him being denied the legal shot of toreodol or Floyd's questionable 'rehydration by IV.' You mentioned the last 15 years. I don't think so. From he beat Barerra the first time till he beat Bradley the first time (Yes Bradley Pac 1 !), he was top dog by most measures, with a better resume than Floyd. And that was for 9 of the last 15 years. Freddy's opinion. Freddy sometimes talks a lotta $hit. ( He said Lacy was going to kill Calzaghe ) If you define the era a bit more carefully than the last 15 years, you could have Floyd as the best of an era. No doubt, as things stand, he will rightly rank higher than Pac all-time, somewhere inside the top 15 -20, while Pac will probably not crack the top 30. BTW, I would (controversially, I admit ) rank Roy Roy ahead of Floyd all-time.
Fair post with the exception of pbf avoiding pac. The last time I checked only one fighter walked away from a 50/50 split because of testing and that was pac. Also remember he was only top dog because pbf retired he didn't earn it nor did pbf lose in the ring he got it by default. Had pbf never retired or took a break he never would have relinquished his top spot to pac.
Of fighters I have seen fight during my lifetime, in approximate order: Ali Duran............... Top 5 or 6 ------------- Jones SRL................ Top 10 -15 ----------- Floyd ------................... Top 15 -2 0 Pacquaio Pea ----------------.............Top 20 -30 Alexis Arguello Marvin Hagler Tommy Hearns..............Top 30 - 40
Top 20 sounds fair. That's where I'd rate Floyd - probably just outside the top 15. An amazing achievement.
Floyd would have to fight a so-called great fighter in his prime first. lol wtf is this first grade? Reversing the question makes ya sound smart huh?
Mosley's resume is more impressive than everybody but that doesn't make him higher than Floyd. It's WHEN you fight fighters not their names. Pac fought names at catchweights and past their prime. Other than Barrera which champ did Pac fight in their prime? Not Morales. Not DLH. Not Mosley. Not Margarito. Not Floyd ... Floyd easily higher than Pac on anybody who knows boxing's list.
Top 20 is pretty darn good and "The Boastful Egotist" or TBE has a right to be proud of his achievements.
Floyd doesn't have the big enough victories for top 20. You look at a legit top 20 guy like Pacquiao who has the Barrera and Cotto lnockouts. Or Duran who has the Leonard UD and various 135 pound wins. That is top 20 stuff.
You're too dim to discern the point ??? Norton got the better of Ali twice in three tries. He had his number. As did JMM with Pac. But Norton could never beat Liston, Frazier or Foreman. Nor could JMM ever beat Cotto, Oscar, or Hatton. Nor Marg, nor Bradley. Do I need to draw you a picture ?
