Why do you think the weight classes are only 6 pounds apart? Should every junior middle weight be ready to take on any middle weight at the drop of a hat?

I've never understood why "walk around weight" is a thing.

But, you know what he means. Fights at 175, weighs in at 155.

Is this not the same Canelo that was very recently the 160 pound champ? The one who came into the ring on fight night weighing close to if not right at 170?

Fighters routinely drain themselves terribly to get to the contract weight. That's why they start guzzling water as soon as they get off the scale at weighin. It's absurd beyond belief to believe Canelo couldn't fight competitively at 160 RIGHT NOW never mind in 14 months.

Lol! This is such non news its not even funny. This means absolutely nothing! None of this is in writing just a verbal agreement. Its a minimum of 3 fights away for both fighters and about 15 months away and GGG isnt getting any younger. If GGG sits and waits around for this fight he`s a fool! The latest he shouldve agreed to a fight is May `17. Boxing continues to be a joke.

Oh I know. It's a bit of a misnomer is all, as 'walk around' is often used in lieux of 'fight night' weight.

The guy was being pedantic about it. I'm backing you up basically.

Canelo and De La Hoya are buying time. That's most of what this amounts to. Get GGG when he's older and got more miles on the speedo. That's if it ever actually happens.

Wtf boxing....why do I bother with this sport anymore? This situation is like the NFC champ telling the AFC champ let's do the Super Bowl in 14 months...we just got a new field and our players need to "acclimatize" themselves to it.

if he pronounces it the correct way, his credit score drops about 150 points.

I would've preferred just one tuneup, but I don't have a problem with this. What will tell a lot however is what Canelo does with his two tuneups: if he fights a couple welterweights Oscar and him are just milking as much cash as they can before his inevitable loss to GGG; but if he fights top 15 middleweights at 160 rather than a catchweight it would show Canelo's serious about acclimating to middleweight and is trying to sharpen his skill to give him his best chance vs Golovkin. Let's see what he does in September.

Hey, GGG and his team agreed to this so the money must have been really substantial.

Don't buy it. Canelo is a coward. A lot can change in 1.5 years. He's trying to save face by putting that statement.
