Thats not the point though. The point is that a 176 lb boxer IS NOT a cruiserweight. This game can be played all day. What about a 177 lb'er? Can he not cut one more pound down to 176? Cause once he's at 176 its only one pound away from Cruiser..........and so on and so forth

What is those classes WEC? Every other major organization starts around 155. WEC caters to smaller fighters, they don't even have a HW class. They are the only ones that do that.

Pride ( The best MMA organization ever) the lightest weight class started at 161.

 

He also scored PacMan's last fight in favor of JMM - and PacMan is still #2 at his list... his P4P list (as well as mine) is based on resume, and Calzaghe's last 2 fights (Kessler: unifying all 4 (3) titles, maybe the most important SMW fight in the divisions' history) means a lot more than defeating a shot Barrera... the close victory over JMM and the close victory over Hopkins is equally strong, so the other fight decides for me...

By the way I had JMM and Calzaghe winning but my p4p top 3 is 1) Calzaghe, 2) PacMan, 3) JMM since PacMan's resume is better than JMM's (he defeated the old MAB more convincing).

It's really tough to choose between PacMan and Calzaghe for the P4P#1 spot because Floyd's retirement came out of nowhere and suddenly you have to pick a less gifted fighter to replace Mayweather. But let me tell you: every boxing columnist and expert had hard time choosing between the two, so picking one over another is subjective thing and there's no definite P4P#1 today... Based on recent resume, I'd say Joe's a bit better (overall: it's PacMan's), but where I can put Calzaghe ahead of PacMan is that he's a multi-dimensional fighter yet to taste defeat like Floyd, and he can box, brawl, control the fight or counter-punch - 'slap' if that's a better weapon (vs. Hopkins) or throw hard punces like in the Mitchell or Lacy fight - he can do anything, and now he has the resume to prove that. Also his future is very bright too: P4P-er Pavlik could be his next opponent and there's no P4P-er on the horizon for PacMan since Juan Diaz never made it and Hatton fell out (the 3rd JMM Marquez fight could change it, so bring it on instead of Hatton).

But as I've said, it's close, and picking one is subjective... most have PacMan #1 today, and you can make the argument that it's logical: PacMan is more popular one, he had more HBO fights, fought (win or lose) the more popular fighters... I just don't prefer popularity over resume and skill level...

 

I was going to ask you (BigBone) why you had JC at your #1 slot. Good arugment, which I no doubt expect out of you every time

was barrera that shot in his 2nd fight with pac? Because before that just a few months he was highly competitive against jmm in a close fight, and jmm is still a fresh fighter who hasn't been in too many wars despite his age

They are interchangeable. I have no problem with anyone having either at #1.

Both have the right to be called "number one pound for pound". It's subjective.

Manny Pacquiao defeated Juan Marquez, Marco Barrera and Morales most recently.

Joe Calzaghe defeated Bernard Hopkins, Mikkel Kessler, and Peter Manfredo most recently.

Both guys consistantly defeat top-tier boxers. This qualifites them both. Pound for pound is not ONLY about quality of opposition but also about performance and talent. Subjective.

I see either one COULD be called tops. I prefer Pacquiao. Some prefer Calzaghe.

 

Well we are not talking about personal p4p list. We are talking of the p4p list based on Ring's.

The point of arguement is between the number 1 and 2 slot.
