To be honest there is no rush for the fight. Rigo has had what 12 fights? I kinda agree with Arum's thinking here, this fight could be so much bigger than it is now and neither guy is a hypejob, they're here to stay. Both wins will mean and do so much more for their careers if both are established superstars and by the time they get to FW, the glamour division of the lower weights, I can see both being stars.

Might just be a case of everyone calling for the Bradley-Alexander match, look how that turned out. Let them establish themselves to be great first then its a battle between 2 greats. Although from a fans POV, i'd love to see the fight now.

Also Donaire maybe ducking Rigo but his competition is still levels above Rigo's.

Will Rigo fight a live body? If Rigo is as good as people say he is, there shouldn't be much of a risk putting him in with a guy that can fight.

However, like every good promoter, Arum will probably protect his investment.

Just like he knew that Juan Ma Lopez vs Gamboa would end in a brutal knockout of his fighter, the same will happen when Rigo fights Donaire.

I anticipate that Arum's plan involves Donaire moving up a division and Rigo staying where he's at, and ultimately both fighters avoiding eachother.

i agree. rigo could fight him and let's see how does he stack up with donaire's recent opponents.

 

arum should give arce what he wants. if arce feels this is a retirement fight, he deserves it for taking on donaire.

It looks like i'm the only one that actually wants Rigondeux to prove himself in the professional ranks before fighting Donaire.

I like both fighters alot and this fight could be massive if it's built correctly. Gamboa and JuanMa has been brought up and it's a decent example, but both guys were legit, undefeated world champs with similar resumes and he wrongly decided to try and build it up when it wasn't going to get much bigger.

However, Rigondeux hasn't really defeated anyone relevant in pro boxing so far, whilst Donaire is P4P top 5 (he's my #2) with wins over Darch, Montiel, Nishioka etc. Give Rigo a couple of fights against Mijares/Arce level opponents and the fight becomes very, very relevant.

Donaire vs Mares is still the top fight at 122 imo, for now.

coz lopez lost the 2nd time, and lost baadly. his win could have been against gamboa in the next 4 months, but instead got ktfo, and worse, got banned for being a whiny phaggit.

 

Well sadly most "fans" were actually agreeing with Arum to "hype" the fight and make it a huge ppv fight. Like its special simple to take two fighters that have never been on ppv and make them stars without fighting each other.

they were two of the featherweight prospects in 09, and yet you want them to fight them early on? this is boxing business, as you fight your way to the top, you earn more rep and fame in the mainstream, and when you are there, you can get to have this gamboa-lopez fight. BUT LOPEZ ****ED UP against the man whom Gamboa already beat.


Seems you really liked Rigo to fight Nonito this early. if you want rigo to fight nonito who is the man at his weight, rigo should fight better opposition to make himself more worthy an opponent and has a NAME, not just beating no names and almost knocked out by a jab.
