written a piece for one of the major websites out there and calling the guy a poof is not right. is he saying in a round about way that Orlando Cruz is maybe a quit job as well?
He always has the latest scoops nd news and that's what he should be used for. The rest I couldn't care less.
I understand what he's saying, but he fails to understand that in America we wouldn't have said it was a comeback at all. We'd say exactly what we're already saying: Burns is really lucky the guy hurt himself. It was an inconclusive end to a good fight and if Gonzalez was legitimately inured then a rematch is the only honorable option. We don't ride fighter's dicks for being American. We have plenty of fighters.
Why is a rematch honourable? Because Gonzalez shot his load then realised he couldn't get Ricky out of there. He should have kept fighting. And no way was he injured badly. There was no luck in there. Ricky had the stamina to keep going, José didn't. He doesn't deserve a rematch after quitting so brazenly.
If that's the case then obviously not. But if they show an xray of a broken bone then I think that sort of proves the point. I just think the way Gonzalez fought in every round besides the 7th, there's no way he was gassed. He was taking small steps and throwing punches without all the power on them. In the 7th he went hard, but not balls to the wall, and while Burns caught him good it didn't appear seriously damaging. Then in the 8th and 9th Gonzalez did nothing, but he wasn't even taking punches. I just don't think he was gassed out or hurt by punches. If he was, then he truly sucks badly. Just rewatched the fight to look for the punch that hurt his wrist...it didn't happen in rd 7-9. He was avoiding throwing the left as much as possible during those rounds. When he hurt Burns he didn't launch a 2-handed attack, he almost exclusively relied on the right hand. At the point right after he rocked Burns he threw 3 in a row when he should have just swarmed him with both hands. He kept switching stances to land the right hand. I'm going to watch it one more time, but my guess is he hurt his hand early in the fight, and the fact that he kept throwing it made it worse and probably had him worried. Hitting stuff with a broken hand can end your career (when my hand was broken I was told that if I hit anything for 6 weeks I would never fight again).
To be honest I don't think the article is that bad. Its the things that he doesnt say that stand out more. I agreed with the judges and had Burns 3 down rounds down by the time of the stoppage. I agree that Gonzales did out box Burns, but on that performance, name me another lightweight that would hang with Gonzales? I also think that he would give Broner a good fight at lightweight aswell. He was severely underestimated and Burns nearly paid the price.
