I think Dan was a bit old by the time he started in MMA. He certainly wasn't in good shape.. I think the Coleman fight pretty much explains how this fight would turn out, but I think it would likely be even more lopsided in Lesnar's favor, in that Lesnar is even stronger than Coleman who basically beat Dan Severn via man handling. There is obviously the chance that Severn could apply a submission, he was pretty good at subs, but I think this is more a 9/10+ times we could count on Lesnar winning, and those odds get even better as Lesnar becomes more familiar with submissions.
i agree with koa dan was old and wasnt nearly as explosive a wrestler as lesnar i think lesnar wins this fight 9/10. i dont think he would finish dan but i think it would be a lop sided ud. i mean if lesnar had trouble taking randy down dan would give him trouble as well and it would turn into a wrestling match which lesnar would be able to grind out with pure strength
Lesnar. In Severn's prime, he never really had any striking at all. By the time Severn became more of a well rounded fighter, he was getting up there in years. Severn still fights regularly and trains about 30 min from where I live. Prime Tom Erikson vs Brock would be interesting.
When Severn faced Coleman, I don't think he was out muscled as much as he was out classed. Coleman was an Olympic caliber wrestler, which would have made him one of the best in the world. Severn was very accomplished, but on a smaller scale. Randy Couture was an Olympic caliber wrestler as well. Couture made the fight interesting, and had successful moments against Lesnar. Still, Couture came up short. It's hard for me to imagine Severn having as much success as Randy.
Have you ever watched the fight? Coleman out wrestles Severn the entire 2 or so minutes the fight lasted. I remember the fight well. Severn tried a couple of take downs. Coleman defended them easily, sprawling and mounting Dan briefly before taking his back. Severn turned over, giving Coleman the mount. Coleman ended the fight with a choke. The only thing Coleman "muscled" was the choke. He didn't have it very tight, and was really cranking it. The fight looked like a wrestling match with a few punches thrown here or there. Coleman looked like an instructor against a pupil with fewer skills. If Severn was an alternate, I didn't realize it. I believe Couture was an alternate for 3 Olympics. I was always under the impression Severn had many national accomplishments, but wasn't really Olympic material. I apologize if I was mistaken. Fat storage is a natural process, so if you want to say he is naturally bigger than Couture I won't argue much. Severn was about an inch taller, and was by no means a fat ass. I've just never seen Severn show up to a fight as lean as Couture. Couture has competed at 205, but I'm sure he was 220+ come fight night. Couture also looks leaner at 230+ than Severn looked at 250.
