Dana anonces flyweight & 5round fights

I thought athletic commission were the people reponsible for how long a fight was suppose to be ?

The athletic commissions have all approved 3 and 5 round mma bouts, so this will not really have an impact there. The commission would get involved if they were changing round lengths and/or limits, or if it were any way different than prior approval. If the UFC said they were doing away with time between rounds, fighting 7 rounds instead of 5, or doing away with certain restrictions; I'm sure the athletic commission governing the fight would have to sign off first.

 

the 5 rounders are needed desperately. 3 rounds is too short. its over in an eyeblink and leaves fights more open to dodgy officiating.
5 rounders will help seperate the contenders from the pretenders.

 

It's funny that you mention more 5 rounders needed. When I watched the fighter in your avatar, Demian Maia, face Jason MacDonald; I had a similar thought. I saw Maia's technical prowess, but it looked to me like he may need more than 3 rounds in order to overcome stronger opponents. MacDonald held his own until his strength began to fade. Right after that fight, I told a friend of mine that I hope Maia gets a title shot soon because it looks as though he may need 5 rounds to impose himself on the elite fighters.

I hope Maia wins this weekend, but he is facing a bull that may outpoint him over 3 rounds.

I think it might be a bit too soon to flyweights. Let the people embrace the new lower weight classes, recognise the champs and contenders etc

5 rounders should be for eliminators and title fights. That is the true standard that is supposed to set you apart.

5 round main events is the UFC way of not having to put title fights on but with 8 weight classes and every event being PPV then there should be at least 1 title fight on every card.

 

yea man agreed too many fights are unfairly called by judges and on top of that the only fights that should be 3rds rounds is from middleweight to heavyweight.

 

****en great call for the 5 rounders, guida petis shoulda been a 5 rounder, i was only thinking this the other day that title eliminators should be 5 rounds, as for flyweights not needed yet a cruiser division or super light heavy at 225/230 is needed though

 

Yes but SF tried to have there GP bout to 5 rounder and they couldn't.

So basically, from what I understand that mean that DW can make executive decision on how the rules can be applied.

Wich basicallly means he could try to put stomp and soccer kick back in the game....but he doesn't seem to encline to do that !

 

New Jersey said that Coker never actually applied for five-round non-title fights. And the ABA have recommended that five round non-title fights be allowed for awhile.

And no way could White put head stomps and soccer kicks back in. You believe that then you're insane.

They were allowed to do deregulation in the financial system. Why not athletic commission ?

Personally I don't care too much about stomps to the head - I can see why that's a step too far and its not like there's too many situation when you think "if only this guy could stomp". Knees to the head of a grounded opponent and upkicks to a grounded opponent would be good though.
