Scotland is definitely in our plans for the future. This last year when we went into the U.K., we went to a different place every time. Scotland is next. Well be there soon. I guarantee it. White did clarify though that the expansion into Europe, at least at this time, isnt because its lining the promoters pockets, saying, I dont think there is anything profitable about the European market right now. Were getting our ass kicked over there. But the bottom line is, and I'm always yapping about the boxing promoters and how they don't spend the money to build their sport and secure the future of the sport, for this sport to grow, we need to move out to Europe. It hasnt been easy though as White reflected, When we first bought this company ... inDemand pay-per-view, DirecTV and EchoStar were our three options. Everybody said there is no way this is going to get on free television, etc., etc. But he does believe that there are characteristics of mixed martial arts that appeal globally. He feels that the sport has the potential to be much bigger, on a worldwide scale, than possibly any other sport in the world and that is a large part of his reasoning for the UFCs European invasion. Look at the NFL. There's nothing bigger in this country than the NFL, White stated. They've been spending billions of dollars trying to break into Europe and they can't do it, because nobody gives a (expletive) about football in Europe. They didn't grow up playing football, they don't know about it. I take two guys and put them in the Octagon and they can use any martial art they want. It translates through all different cultural barriers, language barriers... people love fighting. He continued, I think that this thing can be global. I think that this thing can be the biggest sport in the world. I already know it's the most exciting sport in the world. I am glad there are coming to Canada...I just might be at UFC 84 in Montreal....in the city I live in people talk UFC..or pride all the time...boxing in my city is as extinct as the dinosaurs, the only place I can talk about boxing with people is here. People **** on Dana all the time but he has done wonders for the sport wether people like it or not.
I think its 83 in Montreal. Its going to be sick. Theres rumours Shogun is fighting on that card as well. Also Arlovski might fight on that card (rumour) as he's not on 80,81 or 82, so that would be his last chance to have a fight in the UFC before his contract runs out (Thats unless UFC does indeed release AA) You've also got GSP and Serra of course. Its going to be the Megaton.
Scotland? You call that global? **** they may aswell have a UFC in outer mongolia for what its worth! :yep
Thank ****, I was beginning to think Dana was taking the **** by doing Belfast & Newcastle but not Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Actually it was 83 but has been changed because there is another card in england.....on march 8th which is now 83...and a week earlier is 82 on march 1....spring should be great time for fight cards.:good
Huh? I've not heard anything about this, are you sure? Source? Why are they having another England card so soon after 80?
