I agree with all this. But to hear 'he didn't need the money' or 'The UFC HW division is a joke' as the reasons he didn't sign is just too ******ed when you consider what happened in SF.

  2. Actually, Strikeforce had the better HW fighters. Strikeforce was also able to match the money in addition to Fedor still having what he wanted.

The reason he took the fight with strikeforce was he was given double the money the UFC could offer. HW in strikeforce were paid $1 million.

  4. Id trust Fedor before the known liar Dana White.

If Dana and the UFC didnt treat Fedor like some unknown, unproven, fighter with no money and willing to work for $40k a year like Carwin then they would have got him. UFC didnt make Fedor what gives them the right to trash his achievements and name?

Too ******ed for words. You are a complete joke. Fedor dived into Werdums guard like a rookie. Big foot was just too big, no shame in that one but to say he lost on a cut is bending reality sightly, he got brutalised and during that brutalisation suffered a cut amongst many other injuries, so technically he lost due to a cut but the fight was pretty one sided. Hendo is massive and landed a lucky punch seems to be your take on Fedor, again, rushing in for the finish recklessly. Nice work you ****ing div. Yet all the HW's in the UFC are **** and had no chance? *****.

actually strikeforce gave Fedor $1.5 million, that's similar to all money Lesnar made in his entire career in the UFC.

The UFC is bitter Fedor never fought there, so there is a smear campaign now by Dana White to say Fedor isn't the GOAT. But the fact that Dana keeps getting asked this question is funny because everyone knows the answer.

Fedor was paid $1.5mil for the Henderson fight alone. That's not even taking into account the multi fight deal he signed. Bottom line is he choose the option that made much more financial sense.
Id find it very hard to believe the UFC would have given him 'Affliction' type money when their best stars Couture, Liddell etc were not making sums close to that as salary, not taking into account sponsorships, bonuses etc.
Its the same reason why Henderson left the UFC the first time. Not just because of Zuffa's dispute with his brand but because he could make more money elsewhere. Coleman, Kerr et all all did the same in the early UFC days when they left for PRIDE. Why fans can't see the basic economics of this i don't know. The UFC PR machine is strong.....

Wasn't the whole Randy Couture walkout kickstarted by Couture feeling insulted by how large an offer the UFC made to Fedor? And even back in 2007 before (in his words) his walkout improved fighter renumeration he was earning a million dollars for fighting Gonzaga. Someone like Liddell would surely he been making more than that due to his events doing better on pay per view.

As for Fedor. He was right to turn them down in 2007, wrong to them down in 2009. It was a business decision and getting worked up about it is silly but with how hot the UFC was and how much ESPN bought into Fedor vs Lesnar as a boxing-esque heavyweight unification match that fight would have made them both the highest paid headliners in the sport's history. However as discussed in another thread, only a fraction of that money would have been guaranteed and if he had lost to Lesnar he would have found himself earning less.

Also wasn't the Strikeforce deal weird in that Fedor was down for $400,000 and then on top of that M-1 got paid to be the co-promoter? And if we're talking not seeing basic economics, it has to be acknowledge that both Affliction and Strikeforce imploded amid financial difficulties.

Negative. SF was a viable promotion and its stakeholders were more than happy with its success as in its last fiscal it turned over at least $40M. They just weren't interested in taking the promotion to the next level and Coker didnt want to sell it but the majority did. Hence the buy out.
Affliction on the other hand was never going to be in the market long as that was never the owners original intention. But it did implode because they paid their fighters too much. That said brand wise it did extremely well in a very short space of time.

And salary wise i don't know of any UFC fighter who made in excess of 750k. I think only Liddell and GSP may have made sums close to that in salary alone. Couture was certainly not making anything close to that.

Strikeforce was looking for investment over two years to cover costs associated with Fedor and others contract. It was because of this desperation for investment that the UFC discovered there was a chance to buy them. The issue will always be that the only way to make big money is to run pay per view but without the UFC platform running MMA PPV is a great way to lose a lot of money very fast.

On salary...it depends what you mean. If you mean the base pay reported by commissions then no UFC fighter has got anywhere near to $750K. The highest I can remember is $400k.

If you mean the amount they're paid by Zuffa i.e. including pay per view points and other bonuses then as I said when Couture's contract was released he earnt $1million for a fighter that did a quarter of the UFC's record buyrate. When Overeem's contract was released as part of the Golden Glory dispute the provisions show he made over $2million for UFC 141 when his signing-on fee (paid over his first three fights) and pay per view points were included.

I'm referring to this. I definitely recall both GSP and Liddell making $500k. Chuck got $500K for the Jardine fight. I'm sure iv also seen Liddell make $750k as a flat salary too.

    Ah okay.

I think that's relevant in so far as the confirmed money Fedor could receive if he was to lose all three fights and so slide down the card. But given that he was promised an immediate title shot its relevant to compare what other fighters had earnt through things like ppv points - which its important to note are not things given out on a whim depending on Dana's mood but contractually defined payments (i.e. for every dollar the UFC makes on ppv, the fighter receives Xcents).

Well its hardly surprising as Fedor's commercial and name value is immense. If it wasn't neither PRIDE, Affliction or SF would have paid him way in excess of millions of dollars for his fights.

I love fedor, seen him fight live 2 times.

I just wished he would have signed with the UFC. He had a good chance at beating Brock.
