It seems that he and John Hackleman don't agree on if Chuck should hang em up. http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_y...5nYcB?slug=dm-chuck051109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
i actually believe danas got chucks best interests at heart on this one.. think about it he could make alot more money with chuck than without him.. that being said i dont believe chucks done as a fighter..
It's Chuck's decision on whether or not he should continue fighting. It would be a shame if White froze him out of the UFC and MMA altogether. Chuck is not as shot as everyone thinks.
Liddell's loss in UFC 97 is a definite example of the problem of not having a count. It was a fantastic fight and then Liddell got caught by a winging punch and that's it the fight over. It would have been a hell of a lot more exciting if he had been given the chance after a count to carry on.
I actually thought Chuck was beating Rashad, but I was saying during the fight Chuck stop following Rahad around he is gonna catch you and like 10 seconds later BANG!
Interesting point. I believe Dana White was asked this question before and he replied that there's never been a death in the UFC and one of the reasons why is because they don't have an ten count. Cause then multiple injuries to the head can occur, and it's the multiple repeated hits to the head the cause permanent damage, more so than one brutal shot that KO's a fighter.
I think Chuck is done as a championship fighter. He's slower, his punch resistance has been decimated to none, and his punch might have evaporated already. In his prime, it would'nt have taken Wanderlei a minute of taking that number of blows. Liddell is what have been Julian Jackson in the last part of his career. I even doubt if he could beat Brandon Vera at this point.
That's not really saying much. He won the lackluster first round based on activity (what little of it there was), but Evans was the one landing all of the clean blows in the second before the KO. Chuck probably still has some fight in him, but he's clearly not going to be competitive with the top guys at his weight. I'd rather see the guy hang them up than tarnish his legacy fighting inferior competition in some of the smaller US promotions or ending up in some sort freak show mismatch in Japan.
From a health perspective, whether Chuck should retire or not is open to debate. One thing I do find troublesome though, is that Chuck has one fight left on his contract. If Dana White has decided that Chuck will not fight again in the UFC, I would hope this would release him from his contract so he could fight somewhere else. Not that I'm saying he should keep fighting, but he should be given the opportunity if he wants it. It would be very unfair to refuse to give Chuck a fight, but then turn around and say "you can't fight anywhere else because you have one fight left on your UFC contract." But, considering what a control freak Dana White is, I could see him doing this.
He simply doesn't have the authority to force liddell out. Why do people think a press secretary is in charge of zuffa?
