Unlike UFC, people weren't buying the PPV to see 2 or 3 good match-ups, they simply wanted to see the main fight. I doubt even 95% of the people even knew who was scheduled to be on the undercard. That said, GBP could've done a better job of matchmaking. Just a crappy night for them all the way round.

My question is, what does last night do to the future of GBP?

Dana White is a pig, luckily our sports people would like to keep their dignity and not go out of their way to point out a "bad day" to UFC(in their opinion)...

If Oscar would have destroyed Manny, as many expected him to, I'd agree with Dana.

Thankfully, Manny won -and did so impressively.

White should not feel threatened as he still largely controls the gimmicky combat sports PPVs with pro-wrestling floundering and all.

It's not like bad undercards in boxing is something new, but you see way more fights end early in MMA then boxing (I thought that's why ppl liked MMA anyways?), it was just one of those nights. I was watching the fight at a bar and it was PACKED, tons of people standing anywhere trying to watch. I was surprised because you don't really see a lot of excitement in Toronto around big fights. I was at a casino for Couture-Lesnar and although there was as much hype, you didn't feel the same excitement DURING the fight. I thought Pac was gonna get destroyed, but instead he came through with an amazing performance and although he won't pull DLH numbers, you can bet that Pacquiao is a bonafide star in the sports world now. Pacquiao-Mayweather wouldn't beat DLH-Mayweather but it would outsell any card the UFC can come up with.

How's that a bad day for boxing?

I interpret White's comments as a comment on the production of the SHOW, not just the quality of the fights - There were huge gaps in between fights, the actual production of the show was slitlted and 3 national anthems is ridiculous - The US seemeingly rperesented by a Las Vegas hooker after the demure and classy Pinoy nad Mexican anthems.

He's still picking at straws thought - The atmosphere of the main event was still electric.

I can't stand the nit picky way he goes about it.

"The ringwalk was too long..." Yeah, that spoiled the whole night. :patsch

You'll never seen an event like last night ever in the UFC and if so, it won't be as dramatic ... if no one's getting knocked out in UFC ... the fights are fairly boring. Unlike boxing where you can get a good quality match-up a good action packed fight and not see any knockdown let alone a knock out.

Tell what UFC fight was more action packed than Marquez v Vasquez, Pacquiao v Morales I, Morales v Barrera I-II-III, Trinidad v DLH, Pacquiao v DLH, Corrales v Castillo I, Lewis v Tyson, Lewis v Klitschko, Cotto v Margarito, DLH v Mosley, Cotto v Mosley, Mayweather v Hatton, Vasquez v Gonzalez, Trinidad v Vargas, Trinidad v Mayorga, Calzaghe v Jones, Hopkins v Trinidad, Hopkins v Pavlik, Taylor v Pavlik, Pavlik v Miranda ... the list goes on and on and on ... there are too many classics ... too many slug fests ... too much drama in boxing ... the story lines, the pagentry, the fight ...

All dudes do in MMA is wrestle on the ground in homo-erotic positions.

I don't know what MMA or UFC card for that matter can top 4 fights ... and 4 dramatic knockouts ...

all the top guys have losses on their record and they can get beat by "bums" of the sport ... in boxing ... you move your way up through the circuit and you find your way and on the way up you can face a good quality guy, maybe the best in the division and either dethrone him or get beat ... in MMA you're always getting beat ... and they lack a good crop of elite fighters so there's no chance of them working their way back up like they do in boxing ...

    Excellent post :good

I thought the USA national anthem singer was the "Milkshake" chick -- she looked that trashy.

The Mexican anthem was, of course, a pander to what is considered to be the most devoted fan base of the sport in the United States.

The production of the show sucked. There's no way around that. White is still one of the biggest d*ckheads on the face of the earth, but he's right about how the show was produced. When they looped the Pac entrance music (instead of, say, segueing into the traditional "We Are the Champions" from Queen to follow up what I think was "Another One Bites the Dust" I felt embarrassed for HBO.

Nobody does. He's an @sshole. He thinks he's cute, trying to play a Vince McMahon 'tough guy' type executive of his association and make himself a main focus of his promotion, but everyone just thinks he's a d*ck and a joke.

If White really wanted to make money on a PPV, he should put himself in a match against Brock Lesnar. People would pay good money to see Lesnar destroy Dana White.
