That has nothing to do with the UFC though, it's just the nature of the sport. Nothing is going to change that. And at least the UFC addresses it (at significant cost to both the quality of their product and their bottom line) by taking some of the stress and financial burden off the fighters when they inevitably get injured. :good

People are freaking out WAY too early. The great majority of their complaints simply boil down to being butthurt that the UFC became the dominant promotion in the sport.

Fact is that the sport has FAR higher profile all over the world than it did even five years ago. The Fox deal means it'll be on primetime TV for at least another half-decade, which is more than enough time to grow new stars.

The money's getting bigger, more people are training, athletic teenagers are starting to look at it as a realistic professional career. The UFC's success can only help the regional circuits all over the world. MMA was nothing in Australia five years ago, now it's another part of the sporting landscape and for the first time it's realistic to have an Australian fighting circuit develop.

Has Zuffa made some missteps? They certainly have.

Is the sport better off because of Zuffa and Dana? Can't really make an argument that it's not.

Listen to this forum, it's like the sport is six months away from total collapse, instead of being bigger than ever before.

Well, it's often pointed out that the UFC elite earn WAY less than the top half-dozen or so boxers. That's used as a criticism. So it stands to reason that many fans want Anderson and Chael to split $40 million, instead of $8 or $10 million. Like the top guys do in boxing.

And nobody has yet told me just how much Dana should be paying guys like Nam Phan. Should an honest but limited toiler like Nam Phan be pocketing $400k for going 1-2 in undercard fights against fellow journeymen last year?

Should Kongo be earning a million bucks for a fight? He's been around, fans know him, he fights all the top guys and generally beats anyone who isn't elite level. Does Kongo deserve three or four million or more per year from the UFC? Nobody will identify how much these guys actually should get paid. They just say "The UFC doesn't pay enough, **** Dana." :conf :good

I actually am chilled, it's just an internet forum. And I type fast. :yep

So it's not like I'm sitting here stewing and actually getting upset, it might take me three or four minutes to carve out a long post. :good

But this subforum is just sliding downhill. :-( It's boring. A couple of days ago it went for more than eight hours without a single post being made. A large part of that decline is because 90% of this forum is just assholes bitching and hating. Which is why good posters get sick of it and leave.

Stoo had zero interest in contributing anything to this thread, he only wanted to troll me. Same in every thread he sees me in. No matter what stance I take or how politely I speak to him, he just trolls me for whatever reason. And I'm fool enough to think that if I just try to reach out, we might be able to get a conversation about MMA going. :patsch

    But realistically, we can't. :-(

The lack of major events recently may have something to do with it.

There's only been a lack of events for a couple of months.

It's been several months of the quality of discussion on this forum steadily declining and becoming ever more cliquish and negative. :good

It's not like I haven't contributed my fair share of bitching and trolling, but you can see my point in this thread. Stoo and Neville only seem interested in trolling, and scurla is only interested in telling you how he's the ultimate authority on everything.

There is no MMA fighter who sells as well as Floyd or Manny because boxing is the bigger sport. In fact I reckon In the UK george groves and James degale are as well known as any active MMA fighter if not more well known.
:deal People are always saying what about when this guy retires, I remember more than a few threads uncovering the "boxing is dieing" myth. Someone will always step up to the plate its just the nature of the sport.
Sure thats more to do with the events that have (or haven't been on lately). IT happens all the time on here when a good event with a lot of interest comes up people will flood back.
    I bet you didn't read

I don't understand your point here mate, what do you mean?

I think peoples problems is the overal low wage guys get in the ufc which is obviously making a huge amount of money. You have guys on the main card earning **** all. According to reliable source wikipedia Patrick cote got $21k for fighting Cung Le and Cody McKenzie $10k. For an ex-challenger and both TUF alumni, with in fairness probably limited fan bases, thats not a lot and they definitely as recogniseable names bring a certain amount of interest to the card.

surely there is a middle ground, what most fans want I imagine is a fairer amount of the profits going to the fighters in all combat sports not just MMA.

30,000 people bought tickets for boxing in vegas last saturday night, chavez martinez done 600k ppv and showtime pulled in over 1 million viewers for canelo, compare that to cormier barnett done 500,000 on showtime

dana is scarred, his business stategy has backfired, he thought boxing was dying maybe after this weekend he realises how ****ing wrong he was and thats why he decided to bull**** about wages, he also bullshits about his love for boxing he obviously hates the sport and wants nobody to watch anything but the UFC

Dana is a mastermind, he doesn't look like it but the guy is smart as hell when he comes to wording things. I remember when Lorenzo and Dana compared what guys on FNF were making to those numbers of the lower tier UFC fighters.

Everyone leeched on it and fed off it because Lorenzo released the sad, but true purses these undercard fighters on FNF get. When in reality these undercard guys are like 1-15. They are terrible fighters, and the UFC has always claimed that the best fight here. A ****** can tell ESPN FNF is no where near the "big leagues" of boxing and comparing ESPN FNF to the UFC is like comparing the CFL to the NFL. No comparison needs to be made, period.

Dana as a person may love boxing, but as a business man he knows the sport is a competitor and he'll do sneaky underhanded **** to belittle it. Why? It's what all successful businesses do. People are attracted to success.

The reality is Dana is bullshitting the public and alot of people are buying it.

It's not even ironic it's simply ridiculous. Haggis wasn't even aware of this sub forum 5-6 years ago when it was easily the best MMA forum on the web for quality -posters- alone. Most of those guys don't post anymore. For the simple reason that most have lost interest as the sport has waned largely in part because of the UFC. I can reel of a list of quality posters who don't post or rarely post anymore. Any one of them would tool Haggis in a debate on MMA. And yet he has the unmitigated gall to claim good posters are leaving because of the bitching and hating?

@ Haggis Seriously get your head out of your ass you idiot. Only an anorak like you would notice that no one had posted in 8 hours. If anything some of them have left because of fickle know nothing rancorous 'fans' like you who add NO VALUE to this sub forum.

Nah Dana doesn't hate boxing. He just couldn't make any money off it. He tried his hand. He failed miserably. Thanks to rich benefactor buddys he turned the UFC around and now he wants to act like he's a big fish in a big pond.
UFC and boxing are not competitors. Dana will say ANYTHING so his brand stays relevant. Ultimately that makes no difference to boxing whatsoever. As fans aren't lost on one or the other. If you like boxing/MMA thats hardly going to change dependent on who's at the helm per se. All that matters is the fights. Anyone who thinks boxing is 'dying' seriously needs their head tested. You're talking about a sport. Not a franchise. Sports DONT die. Franchises do.

not in a major way but if boxing is putting on good ppv events and tv shows like we saw at the weekend then it will hit UFC PPV's, there is a big crossover and if the UFC is constantly putting on **** cards or replacement fights these guys who cross over might save their dollar for the boxing PPV around the corner

Fans broadly speaking though aren't watching one or the other. When a card is **** 'fans' of each respective sport simply don't watch. The problem for the UFC is they deliberately try to go up against Boxing bills in the hope of stealing some of the fan base. The UFC isn't big enough or mainstream enough to put on crap cards. Basically they got too greedy. Even if the UFC has to nix 5 or so shows a year thats exactly what it should do to ensure their cards offer value for money. They don't have that same privilege as boxing as boxing is choc full with promoters/promotions. The UFC is just one promoter. If they put on crap shows routinely fans stop watching. Its really that simple in my view.
