Live from the Korakuen Hall (courtesy of a legal subscription service put on by the promoter) A 4 rounder to kick things off between Seishiro Kumakiri (3-6, 1) and Shogo Sakai (5-5-1, 3) 1-Kumakiri having success early but Sakai certainly had his moments as the round went on
2-Sakai starting the round better and looks the better boxer, Kumakiri boring forward with his head and trying to apply pressure but it's pretty clumsy-some right hands from him hand landed wel through. HUGE right from Kumakiri hurts Sakai who returns fire and Kumakiri is momentarily hurt. Fun round even if neither are very skilled.
3-More of the same, with Sakai trying to box and Kumakiri turning it in to a fight, Kumakiri seemed hurt for the final minute of that, another fun round though. I know it's not high level but these well matched "bum fights" if you will, are usually enjoyable!
Second fight - Ryosuke Ota (0-1) v Asashi Okawa (0-0) 1-A bit of a wild slugfest here, neither looks to be doing anything other than trying to behead the other. Didn't catch who was who, but at this rate it's not going to a decision.
Note to myself-Ota is the Southpaw, guy in white 2-The slugging continues, Okawa going to the body well but eats some big lefts upstairs, Okawa tagged hard by a left, stumbles, on his ass! Okawa hurt again... I like the look of Ota, a 20 year old who likes to fight, bit small compared to Okawa but fun kid to watch!
3-Okawa getting a good start here and Ota backing up, pace has slowed and both are looking deliberate, good work from both late but a huge drop in action
4-Okawa getting a hot start, Ota comes back at him, now stood toe-to-toe and just letting their fists fly again, Okawa seems to be leanding the more blows, but Ota's look weightier Ota gets the decision and moves to 1-1
1-Ueno, a teenager, is a huge guy at the weigh with very gangly arms and looks like he could grow into a lightweight, unfortunately he just doesn't look very good and Ikegami is tagging him regularly. Making it fun to watch as the bigger man is connecting every so often and looks to be the puncher
2-Ueno hurt, Ikegami letting the kitchen sink go, Ueno sees off the first and second wave, he's hurt again, Ikegami had a monster round! Couldn't get the knockdown but that was a big round!
3-Ueno trying to box, Ikegami using a lot of head movement and seemingly taunting the younger man, Ueno tagged, and he tags Ikegami back, good body shot from Ueno, Ikegami sometimes struggling with the size and range and Ueno lands a big straight right hand that drops Ikegami! The little terrier is back up but that's a 10-8 round (a CLOSE 10-9 before the KD)
4-Ikegami jumping on Ueno early in the round but the taller man survives the storm, Ikegami is applying pretty concentrated pressure and forcing Ueno to respond, Ueno manages to respond by dropping Ikegami with a counter. Ikegami will need a KO with about 70 seconds left...Ikegami bringing the pressure and Ueno happy to skip around him and avoid a fight now having secured himself 2 knockdowns, Ueno trapped on the ropes and Ikegami goes to work...a counter drops the lil guy who gets up on the bell. 10-7 round for Ueno!
8 rounder - Dai Iwai (18-4-1, 7) v Takehiro Shinohara (7-4-2, 7) Iwai is best known for a fight with Masayuki Ito for the OPBF 130lb title, his only stoppage loss. Shinohara is a big puncher who stopped the touted Daisuke Watanabe last time out, but has been inactive! (Watanabe on the other hand lost a decision to Sho Nakazawa and beat Gakuya Furuhashi in his following bouts)
