Headlining an MTK show at York Hall this coming Friday. WBO middleweight European title on the line, Dignum's third defense. This is an interesting match-up, with both having a common opponent in Andrey Vitalievich Sirotkin. Dignum retained his belt versus "The Russian Bull" with a draw ten months ago, which many felt was a bit generous to Sirotkin. At first blush that should mean the South Essex southpaw has an easy time with the Chathamite, whom Sirotkin stopped six months earlier after scoring four knockdowns. Not so fast, though. Dennis was very competitive with Sirotkin, with only his chin really letting him down - and Dignum by his own admission isn't a puncher and doesn't usually go looking for a KO. (that said, he does boast a 50% stoppage rate which is considerably above Sirotkin's own paltry 31.82%...same # of stoppages in 2/3 as many pro bouts). Provided they are both victorious, Dignum is eyeing a showdown with countryman Felix Cash (who is on assignment the day after this, on the Jacobs vs. Ryder undercard versus Magomed Alievich Madiev) later in 2022.
Lee McGregor vs. Diego Alberto Ruiz in the co-main. Lest anyone needed one, Jonathan José Eniz gave us a reminder last week that barnstorming Argentinian journeymen are not to be underestimated!
Outside chance, yeah. I do make Dignum the fave, being nine years Dennis' junior and undefeated - but it could end up being closer than some might expect (although in a recent interview Danny said himself that, although he wants that Cash fight, he isn't overlooking Grant and knows he'll be in for a tough day at the office).
I voted Danny by KO, and Danny by KO it was. He had a rough opening round, Dennis was too slick for him, but he figured him out by the second round, got his jab on track and starting going to the body with his looping left hooks, and dominated the rest of the fight, eventually dropping Dennis three times forcing the ref to step in and call it in the 6th round. Unfortunately, he got cut due to a head clash again. But the cut wasn't close to as bad as the one he suffered against Sirotkin. Overall it was a pretty good showing, from a fighter than for some odd reason, I quite enjoy watching. He's a very likable easy to root for guy,
