Dubois just blows hot and cold, but really apart from the Usyk fights he been on a hot streak for a while now. He actually has a great resume.

Dubois is nothing special. No head movement. I'm not impressed overall. Weak era and he was saved by officials against Lerena, he's dirty (headbutt), and has 3 KO losses.

You can say Dubois was very fortunate not to get stopped by the referee in his fight with Lerena, but the referee made the right move. A ref should stop a fight when a fighter can’t fight back, and Dubois went on to destroy Lerena (point being the referee made the right call). Yes, most modern refs would have stopped the fight, but most modern refs would have also stopped Ali vs Foreman. Go watch the fight and see how much damage Ali absorbed, so who cares modern refs are garbage. Also, there was no three-knockdown rule in force, despite what Dubois detractors tell you (it’s a stupid rule to begin with, and it’s funny how people pretend they care about it).

Dubois has weak head movement, but what fighter doesn’t have weaknesses? He’s also a dirty fighter. Watch Tyson vs Ruddock II. Are those two bad boxers? Wlad was a dirty fighter too (watch Wlad vs Alexander Povetkin). Does that make him bad? Are Shavers and a prime Foreman bums because they weren’t technical masters? Plenty of great heavyweights are bad/mediocre fighters with a couple great abilities. Weak era? Compared to the 70s and 90s, sure. However, this era is still miles above the mid-to-late 2000s, the 2010s, and the 50s, and the main problem with this era is that most top fighters don’t fight each other. Dubois fights top level opposition more than almost anyone except Usyk. By the way, Usyk is fighting a kickboxer; imagine the criticism Dubois would get if he even touched a fighter outside the top 20.

Are you also the guy who accused me of defending the WBO because I said the Dubois fight was the best possible defense for Wardley’s WBO title? Then you brought up Kabayel as a better fight, which I agreed with, but I also pointed out Kabayel isn’t in the WBO top 15, meaning it wouldn’t count as a title defense for Wardley. Hahaha, couldn't understand a simple concept. I think you are smarter than that, but you are too focused on winning an argument on the internet, which is well indicated in your bio.

Anyway, I was correct. Dubois was a very good test for Fabio (I was confident in his win). Please pretend to be unimpressed by Dubois’ performance in some other thread.

Well I just saw a thread pop up about if he would win against Wlad, so safe to say he is still massively overrated.

Recency bias is hilarious. Dubois is nothing special. Wardley fought an idiotic fight and threw the same looping overhand right that missed absurdly wide at least 40 times during the fight. Dubois has a long enough amateur career that he can win over a guy who tamale adjustments, which everyone at this level should be able to.
This era is garbage, worse than all the ones you listed.

I made this thread before the Fabio Wardley fight, if you remember. Posts like these were common:

“Will Daniel Dubois quit after Fabio Wardley lands a few hard punches?”

Also, Wlad got chinned by Sanders and Brewster, so anything is possible. I don’t buy the Klitschko propaganda that Wlad was “so green and inexperienced” in those fights. Wlad had weaknesses, but I would still pick him to win 70% of the time.

Recency bias? I made this thread during the peak of the Dubois hate. I think Dubois would make minced meat out of fighters like Samuel Peter, Jimmy Bivins, Tomasz Adamek, Tony Thompson, Eddie Machen, Bermane Stiverne, Luis Ortiz, Zora Folley, Bryant Jennings, John Ruiz, Nikolai Valuev, and Archie Moore (in all these fights, Dubois would be a massive favorite). Dubois loses to Wlad, Vladmir, Patterson, and Marchiano, but those are the cream of the crop in the era and Uysk would beat them anyway.

As long as Dubois can land his jab, he’s extremely dangerous.

he just got up off the mat twice to beat the absolute hell out of a guy who seemed willing to die that night for a chance to win.

I really, really wanted Wardley to win, but Dubois was determined, stuck to a fight plan, and looked great. The fact it lasted so long is only a testament to Wardley’s chin, which is clearly top tier (I’d rate him with Hrgovic after that).

what else can even be said. Dubois can have his issues here and there, but when on a hot streak, is a massive danger to anyone with that jab and that right hand.

I’ll never really be a fan because I wish he’d be himself and not act like the asshat his manager (or father) tells him to act like. But dude’s an offensive juggernaut.

3 KO losses is not that bad. 2 to Usyk.

He's got a challenging combination of attributes for a lot of heavyweights. Devastating power, immense physical strength and size, solid fundamentals and footwork with fast feet, a ramrod jab, and a very underrated gas tank which is maybe his most underrated and perhaps important attribute.

Having a guy that big and strong coming at you, with a jab that feels like a right hand and tremendous power in every shot, for 12 rounds with a high workrate is daunting. His chin being (sometimes) solid makes him even more dangerous. Despite being down like 10 times already in his career, he can take some damn big shots and keep coming if he isn't intimidated by you like I think he was with Usyk. Doesn't help that he also often gets help because of boxing politics. Is allowed to foul, gets saved from knockdowns with mysterious early round endings, gets endless title shot opportunities.

Still, I think people would be surprised by some of the guys he would manage to beat in heavyweight history.
