Again, fighters have to pay TONS of money out of their winnings to things like their trainers, manager, cut man, promoter, fees, etc., etc. (not to mention taxes). Geale put nowhere near $2m in his bank. You really need to learn more about the sport.

agree but I don't think his power makes him so dangerous. Curtis Stevens has good power too yet he didn't give serious troubles to GGG even when he connected with that left hook.

Geale has good boxing skills but I think GGG is more technical sound than him. Controling the distance and establish the jab would play a major key in this fight and we know whos the better man at doing this thing. :good

I'll keep things as simple as possible because it's plain there's a dearth of deep thinkers posting in this thread:

If you get paid a $2m purse you generally get to keep a lot more money than if you do if you get paid a $50,000 or $100,000 purse.

Exactly. They typically bank anywhere from 1/5 to 1/3 of their winnings.

For the exercise let's assume you are correct:

    1/3 of $2m = $666,666.
    1/5 of $2m = $400,000

    1/3 of $100,000 = $33,333.
    1/5 of $100,000 = $20,000.

I's a no brainer which is the better deal.

Disagree. I think Macklin and Stevens were both stiffer tests than Geale.

Since when are facts "deep thinking"? It takes factual people to keep fantasy-dwellers like you on track when you start to play fast and loose.

To keep more of your facts on track, if you're saying Geale would have only gotten a purse of $50,000 to $100,000 against GGG, you're seriously in dream land. Geale was the A-side on the Mundine fight, just like he would have been on a GGG fight. It would have been a good payday vs GGG, he could have keep two belts, and fought Mundine mid-year for the even more had he beaten GGG.

The figures I used were just examples.

Put a figure on what YOU think Geale would have made out of the GGG fight. Here's your test. Let's see how much you know....

Sorry I was a little overly aggressive in that last post. One of my clients pissed me off and you kind of caught some of that. That will teach me to decompress on a boxing forum. lol

Probably about $1m to $1.25m. Geale was the draw coming off the Sturm win and GGG was EXTREMELY hungry at the time and would have fought Geale for absolute peanuts. GGG had been screwed by Sturm for a long time. Geale's team could have taken GGG to the cleaners and gotten an obscene split on the money.

To be clear, I don't fault Geale one bit for taking the $2m with Mundine. It's a business and that was a sound business decision. My only point is that the better move would have been to beat GGG, keep both belts and probably make even more in the Mundine rematch right after GGG. The fact that Geale didn't take this path says Geale (or his promoter/manager) felt Geale didn't have enough of a chance of beating GGG to warrant that risk. Had he lost to GGG, it would have devalued his Mundine payday. This makes me skeptical that we will ever see a Geale v GGG fight because Geale's chances of a win have decreased since then. I think Geale's smarter move would be to shoot for Quillin (I'm not sure if Geale's in an HBO contract) or Sturm again. I think ultimately his management will continue to steer Geale clear of GGG as there are probably some better fights for Geale out there, if not Quillin or Sturm. A devastating loss could derail the momentum Geale has picked up. His loss to Barker wasn't definitive or devastating, and didn't hurt his stock too much. Being added to the Golovkin highlight reel would.

Yes, from another thread. So? Virtually the same as copy/pasting yourself (which is more practical than repeating sentiments thread after thread by retyping them over and over) except people can follow the quote link to see the original context in which it came up. I don't see the problem. I doubt you do either. You're probably just looking for one.
