Daniel Geale vs. Anthony Mundine II RBR

Round 8

Mundine is chopping over the top with his right hand. Geale flurries back at him. Mundine is caught behind the ear and ironically complains to Byrd of rabbit punching. They scrap in close and the heads come together. Byrd warns them both about grabbing behind the neck to pull each other in. Geale jabs up at Mundine's face and drops rights to the body, giving him lots to think about defensively and trying to overwhelm him with combo after combo. Mundine adjusts with a modified guard, left glove slung horizontally across his waist and right protecting his chin which he's also turning to roll with the jabs. Very few counters from Mundine. Plenty leads enough from Geale to clearly take another frame, despite a low connect rate.

I saw both those as Geale's, and think Mundine did better in the 7th than the 1st or 8th. :conf

 

Round 9

Mundine is backing up, hiding behind his shell, and flicking some jabs. That's about it. Geale is coming forward, applying the brakes a foot or so out, and playing "watch the birdie" with his left glove roaming around before snapping out as the up-jab. Mundine is carefully slipping. Nice counter right by Mundine at the end of the round, trying to pull a SRL with a confident nod and fist-pump to the crowd, tongue stuck out.
