Daniel Geale vs. Jarrod Fletcher RBR

Barely a scratch on him.



I stopped following Twitter after the 4th to start getting ready for work, and it sounded like Fletcher was on his way to an upset. Aggregating the scorecards of all the Aussies live Tweeting either from ringside or having bought the PPV down there produced a range of level 38 apiece (those rooting for Geale) to a clean 40-36 sweep for Left Jab (those rooting for him) with a mean score of 39-37 Fletcher, most giving him the first three.


I was surprised to later read that Geale had dropped him and from the sound of it dominated the rest of the way.



So, not a great start but a lot of positive takeaway for The Real Deal to seize control, settle into a groove and get the job done in thwarting a hungry and motivated domestic rival. Fletcher is barely a top 5 name on Geale's resume, and struggling with him early isn't a great look, but he needed this W and in the end he got it. Net gain, but he shouldn't be uncorking any champagne bottles or anything. He should get back in the gym ASAP to start ironing things out and planning his next move to build off this.

 

I didn't hate the stoppage, but it was pretty quick.

I did feel Saunders had overwhelmed him straight away, making the class disparity fairly obvious. I don't know that it would have gone either way or been all that competitive had it continued.

BJS' weakness is fading, and Fletcher isn't exactly going to exploit that when he shares that same weakness. (nor is he going to hurt Saunders with anything to erase an early points deficit)
