if these two met each other next, who would win and how would the fight play out? Jacobs has speed, power, reach & athleticism. He can fight on the front foot & back foot. Unlike Lemieux, Jacobs actually has a jab and better foot speed & hand speed. Saunders probably has better pure boxing ability and good footwork.
Hard to tell, I would say Saunders has a good chance winning this one on points. In this fight Jacobs would have to be an aggressor and I don't think he is comfortable in this role against a fast opponent.
Great, close match of skill. Can't wait for it. I lean to Saunders 'one dimensional' style as a backfoot speedster beating the more dynamic Jacobs. Jacobs will make it tricky for Saunders, but he likely won't be able to quite stay with him most of the contest, and his better jab, punch selection, power, and tactical pressure won't control the fight. I lean to Saunders just outmoving, outthrowing, and outspeeding Jacobs, to an 8-4 win.
I have to say that I'm pretty darn high on Jacobs. With the revelation that his chin isn't glass and that he has the gas tank to go hard for 12 rounds, I favour him over every other MW except Golovkin. Thing is, he has the mobility to frustrate gameplans, and the ability to box in flurries when he needs to. Some of his best work vs GGG was a series of scorching body blows ... oh yeah, and he happens to hit like a hammer and is outsized for MW. I appreciate Saunders 2.0 that we saw against Lemmy, but, with respect, Lemmy isn't Jacobs, the same as GGG wasn't Chavez when Cheeseburger fought Canelo. It's hard to use opponents that are tailor made for another fighter to guage how it would go vs a third party. I think Jacobs would probably win, but I'm in no way discounting Saunders, who might just be good enough to beat anybody at MW if he comes in like he did vs Lemieux, and I include my man Golovkin in that list.
Saunders' physical gifts disappear against Jacobs, who is just as much of a physical specimen (if not more) than he is. He's better defensively than Daniel but nowhere near as good offensively. He'd have to fall back on his pure boxing skills, and while he could outbox Daniel, Daniel has the ability to outbox him as well. The sloppy fall around the ring wild misses that Saunders forced against David would not happen, as Daniel is magnificently balanced and has precision speed and power. I'd give Daniel a slight edge in this fight as I think Daniel could detonate Saunders and Saunders couldn't detonate him.
