Daniel Ponce De Leon defeated Roinet Caballero in the wba title eliminator. The bout went the full 12 rounds with Ponce De Leon overcoming cuts over both his eyes. He would either fight Rocky Juarez or Chris John sometime in 2010. The fight did not go the full 12 rounds my source was wrong..it was a tko win
Him vs John would be very interesting, as would John vs Gamboa. After all these years of having to fight mediocre opponents it looks like big fight are lining up for John (if he gets by Juarez which I'm sure he will). He would have a better chance against Gamboa due to Gamboa's pro inexperience and less power than De Leon.
Not quite as bad as Gamboa facing Whyber Garcia for the WBA featherweight title in October atsch The guy has been starched in 1 round by Valero then in 2 by Caballero and again in 5 rounds by Linares and now gets a title shot. Gamboa really needs to step it up instead of facing leftovers.
Ture, Gamboa/Ponce De Leon sounds x100 batter then Gamboa/Garcia. Then again Gamboa/JuanMa next year sounds better than all of them.
To be fair, Caballero was on a 18-1 run over the last five years with a handful of so-so wins. I've seen more inexcusable participants in eliminators. Unless you meant Ponce oughtn't have been in one?
I'm more interested in JuanMa unifying the 122 belts with Caballero next year... But JuanMa can use Gamboa as a smokescreen in avoiding THE TOWERING INFERNO... .
Its changing every 10 seconds, first he was supposed to move up and fight Gamboa, then he wanted to unify with Caballero. Now, I have no idea whats going on.
