Unfortunately, they never met in real life. Although the opportunity would seem to be there, Vasquez's reign coincided with Zaragoza being without the title and he had moved up to Featherweight by the time Zaragoza was in his third reign at 122. Who wins this matchup of super bantams?
I think Vazquez was probably a tiny bit better, but this would end up as an insane war where one man lands the harder shots and the other lands more shots. It'll probably be a back and forth war with both men taking huge shots and showing all sorts of heart and chin. Unless Vazquez gets a stoppage (which I doubt), then I guess Zaragoza's workrate takes a highly disputed and close decision.
Vazquez wins 1 of 3 IMO. He is too good not to, but Zaragoza was a good rematcher and very consistent.
I will go with Vazquez. At his best he was a better (and harder hitting fighter) than Zaragoza. Zaragoza gets points for consistency and longevity, but, he is not a better fighter than Wilfredo.
Bump. A real shame that this was totally missed out when it could have been made. I agree with the consensus that both can beat the other but in a trilogy Zaragoza takes it 2-1 due to higher ring IQ, workrate and performing better in rematches. It would have been an absolute slobber-knocker of a fight in all honesty.
