Most recent I can come up with is Friday Chinedu "The 13th" Ahunanya vs. Ismaikel "The Rebel" Pérez but that's cheating innit. (Mike may be based in Ireland, but born and learned his craft in Cuba withouth a drop of mick blood).

I would've sworn (although this as well would be stretching it a tad) that at least Joe Joyce had faced an Emerald Isler at some point. :nusenuse:

    30-27 O'Brien.

You can hear the grimace on their faces in both Barker's and Lloyd's voices as they're calling this action, torn between being impressed with the Irishman and disappointed in all the gym legend hype that has been built up around the Nigerian-Italian being exposed before them.

They copped out and scored round 2 level, although it was even better for O'Brien than was the first, as he countered so effectively that he finished the round backing Nmomah into a corner.

Firefight in round three, good action, closer, still edged by COB.

    Oi! WTF!

Nmomah exploded and hurt O'Brien with a few power shots pushing him into the ropes, stringing together overhand rights and left hooks; O'Brien was no doubt surprised and hurt but wasn't even near going down when it gets waved off. This was a blatant bail-out to preserve Nmomah's undefeated record, ref and O'Brien's own corner need to be investigated. Commentators are baffled and Craig himself is furious. Ref clearly knew the towel was coming, and pounced as soon as it was thrown, way too early a stoppage there.

    TKO4.

Thought Nmomah edged the third by landing a little cleaner and closing strong. Also thought it was an early towel.

I can see going his way in R3, but...FFS, what a heartbreak for O'Brien, given no chance to show whether he could recover and rally back. Of course, it isn't the ref's or the corner's job to worry about how much success the fighter has banked up until that point - if you get caught while ahead, it is what it is. But he only got stunned, not "omg stop the fight now!" separated from his wits. He was still attempting to clinch and fire counter body shots even when the towel flew in, with Nmomah flurrying wildly on him and missing more than he landed.

Now with a cooler head prevailing after a couple of minutes, no longer seeing red and claiming corruption, but GOD was that ever an overreaction to Nmomah having one dominant sequence after a good deal of bother in the first few rounds.

The "Black Panther" received a mix of boos and cheers when they read out the official result announcement, probably 70-30 among those who vocalized, with most of the crowd just sitting in mystified or indifferent silence.

Yeah, the followup shots were connecting, but he had his hands up and was actively trying to defend even if contact was being made. Would have been worth waiting at least couple of seconds more to see how O'Brien might have fared before issuing the notice of surrender. Then again, the corner has a different view and know their charge better than I do, so they might have seen something about the way the Irishman reacted that gave them cause for concern.

The only explanation I can drum up for that corner stoppage, is they went to the ring fully expecting their boy to take a beating, and what happened in the first three rounds barely registered to change that mindset especially when what they expected to happen, started to happen.

Ref should have told them to **** off...

That is several times now that Diamante has announced this as being a "super lightweight special attraction". :eusa_doh:

    Dummy...you emceed the weigh-ins yesterday.

Ryan weighed in at 144½ and Vujović at 141¼lb. This isn't even close to being at the 140lb limit.

DAZN dummies still had a minute left on the round clock when the bell rang to end the 1st; guess they forgot to have a 2-minute clock template for women's bouts ready to swap in? :sisi1

Sort of a laughable production gaffe considering they've been in business a few years and are a billion dollar enterprise...
