I personally wouldn't be surprised if Garcia managed to pull it out, the guys gets a lot of deserved and underserved hate. As a Matthysse fan he basically ruined Lucas, beat Khan in a good fight before that, Peterson is was solid JWW contender, stopped Paulie who had recently beat Judah and gave a tough fight vs Broner, Guerrero who had just gave a close tough fight vs Thurman. Outside of Vargas and Salka he has been fighting decent/good contenders. Real talk outside of Porter for both Brook & Thurman, Brook doesnt have a win as Guerrero, and Thurman's next best win is struggling with the Ghost.
OK.....I fully admit I was trolling. I don't think Peterson ran the table on Garcia. But if you score any of the early rds for Garcia that means you have Floyd Mayweather will 14 losses. Peterson literally schooled him for the first 4 rds. Danny came back and nicked a couple middle rds before Lamont took the fight to him and nearly put him on his back in each of the final 3. No less than 8-4 Peterson is the ONLY legitimate score for that fight. And if you break it down and give Danny ANY of the first 4 rds or ANY of the final 3, then you gotta go back to every Mayweather, Lara, Ward, Dirrel, Sweat Pea etc etc etc fight and take away their wins, and if you gave Danny any of the final 3, you gotta go back to all the Chavez Sr, Trinidad, ODLH, Mosely, etc etc etc fights and score against them as well.
these guys are gonna compete in this one for sure. cant wait till it happen. something to think about thurman seems he can make 154 to me he seems way to skinny kinda unhealthy but always fights good . garcia eased his way into 147. and by now is a very healthy 147. its a great fight and it will go down to the wire.
The only thing that Garcia is going to unify is his lip after Thurman splits it apart and takes his belt.
After Khan's win over Algeri in May 2015, he wanted a big money fight with ANYONE, preferably Floyd or Manny. After Floyd chose Berto instead of Khan, Khan became enraged and didn't have a fight scheduled for the rest of the year. Floyd retired in September 2015, and the title became vacant. Khan didn't fancy a rematch with Garcia right away, he still wanted a money fight and decided to fight Alvarez in May 2016 while Danny and Guerrero fought for the vacant belt in January 2016. The WBC immediately mandated that Garcia fight his mandatory Khan next or else get stripped, but Khan relinquished his ranking to fight for the WBC Middleweight title instead.
It's going to be a good fight bro, I think Thurman is a little wider with his shots, and Garcia being the better counter puncher of the 2 can take full advantage of that. I think it's going to come down to who can take the better punch of the two. My money is on swift to pull it out!
Peterson didn't do anything in the first 4 rounds. I've watched this fight live in HD without any distractions and scored accordingly. All Peterson did was throw NOTHING but jabs and a few right hands to avoid the left hook early on. He just got knocked out by Matthyse in the 2nd round 2 years before, he wasn't gonna let it happen again. You could tell his strategy from the get go, he didn't even try to win those rounds, he wanted to take Danny in the late rounds because that's when Danny is most vulnerable as evidenced in the Judah and Herrera fights. For those 4 rounds, Danny chased Peterson around landing body shots while Peterson threw a lot of missed jabs and ran around the ring to get away from him. This has nothing to do with Floyd Mayweather, Floyd wins his rounds by controlling the distance, accuracy of punches, and slipping punches. He's a master at controlling the ring, Peterson didn't do that. So if you gave those 4 rounds to Danny instead of Peterson, then you'd have him as the rightful winner as well, glad you agree.
You might be right, maybe Garcia was the best available contender to fight for the vacant title but that fight being a title bout still seems absurd to me. Probably because I thought Garcia's only legitimate win at 147 was Malinaggi and Guerrero received a gift against Martinez in his previous fight. It looks way worse now that Guerrero literally lost to a cab driver in his very next fight and It'll be over a year when Garcia makes the first defence of his title.
Blame the WBC rankings, there's been worse examples. Marco Antonio Rubio-Domenico Spada(an unheralded journeyman) fought for the WBC interim belt after Cotto's year lay off. Without that fight, GGG would of never got the green belt though.
Malignaggi/Broner was a close fight. Guerrero/Thurman was not a close fight at all . I would say Guerrero lost 9 or 10 rnds and suffered a knockdown against Thurman. Its Pretty much the worst one sided loss of Guerrero's career.
From what i recall , Guerrero was never in the fight , even when Thurman seem slightly fatigued and Guerrero had him against the ropes swinging away. He still was ineffective and wasnt scoring much. One judge even scored the fight 120-107 I dont agree with scorecard at all , ( 3 rnds is the most i can see Guerrero winning) But it gives you an idea how dominant Thurman actually was. I had it 10-2 for One Time. Btw that huge knot Thurman suffered on his head was not from a punch at all. It was confirmed that an accidental clash of heads is what caused that. Just wanted to make that clear . I remember on fight night, Guerrero sr was trying to take credit for that , basically looking for anything to defend his sons very lackuster performance.
