My thoughts exactly. Though I am fan of Garcia, I think he could fight the winner of Lamont-Lucas in the fall and then maybe fight Floyd after that if applicable.

I agree, I stated Mayweather Garcia as my favourite for Floyd's next fight, I'm not sure Garcia wants it, infact its obvious he doesn't.

He's being paid nicely, overpaid for his abilities IMO, at 26 I dont think he needs to go and grab his 4 or 5 million and take a pasting for it right now. He probably feels he can keep fighting JrWW's for good money and not have his ears boxed off for his troubles.

All that said, I dont rate Garcia too highly, he has the right to claim to be #1 in the division right now but I think Lamont or Matthyse beat him, if Broner comes to 140 make that 3. And if Amir Khan decides to box clever against Garcia he IMHO can beat him too, although big ask as Khan's running backwards physically at the moment, so when his reflexes do finally desert him he'll have nothing but skinny legs and weak chin to get him by!

Yep end of 8th rd when Floyd almost stopped Robert, Angel was cheering hard for Floyd and when the round ended and Floyd walked back to his corner, Danny had the look of astonishment.

i see he as a slugger personally. boxer puncher is the worst way to describe a boxer. punching is what a boxer does. thats like describing usain bolt as a "sprinter/ runner"

I am going to sound Bias as he is a local fighter, but I think Peterson could really give Floyd a challenge.

Boxer/puncher is the worst way to describe a boxer, yet you have just labelled a boxer a slugger? Brawler is also often thrown around, yet a boxer/puncher is not a good description?

    Boxing is what boxers do.
Boxers do punch - some punch harder than others, some throw power punches more often than others.

Can you explain your definition of slugger and why you label Garcia with, just interested.

Garcia boxes, that is clear, he's not reckless, he's patient. He throws a lot of power punches, his power doesn't vary often. This is why I would label him a boxer/puncher.

see Khan fight, he was dancing circles around him until he landed a wild punch and stunned him. he couldnt touch him.
i just dont think you should define something by using a word that is a basic function of what they do
garcia is a boxer- therefore punching is what he does
bolt is a sprinter- therefore running is what he does
    see what iam saying?

You really need to watch that bout again.

Round 1 onwards, Khan was landing multiple times, but watch as Garcia was landing single power punches at a time, timing him everytime Khan jumped in to range. He was reckless like I said, he was patient, Khan was winning the rounds, but Garcia was still tagging him hard.

He was not slugging, he was boxing, and he outboxed Khan. Landing the cleaner, more effective punches to end it.

I do see what you're saying. All boxes box, that is the sport, but some box more than others. Some are known punchers, don't vary their power often, hence why they are labelled punchers. Some do both - boxer/punchers.

"but watch as Garcia was landing single power punches at a time" that right there is slugging to me. just my opinion though. agree to disagree

Peterson is riding the quest of momentum, but lets not forget how easily he was shut down by Bradley, I'd like to see Peterson go after Bradley again personally

Slugger to me sounds like not much skill is being employed, whereas Garcia employs a lot of skill towards his natural (and enhanced) timing. But yeah. :good

Having following these posts I think you've been found out a little about your technical knowledge of boxing.

Garcia is not really a slugger I wouldn't label him a boxer / puncher either because he rarely throws a jab or works off a jab, he is patient and he has good timing, but a slugger he's not.

    Butterbean is a slugger.
