He’s obviously not HOF at this moment but to say he has no good wins and was just a journeyman/titlist is extremely disingenuous. His wins over Khan, Matthyse and Judah were excellent wins when each fighter was at the top of the rankings at 140. If he beats Lara then he’ll be a 3 division champion in which case he has an argument making the HoF.
Just to be clear, Danny was undisputed in the figurative sense since he NEVER had ALL the belts at 140. He did have some good wins though like Khan and Matthyse. Danny wouldve needed to fight Bradley or JMM to become fully unified/undisputed (WBO belts) and both of those guys wouldve beaten him. Danny is absolutely a journeymen/titlist level fighter. In weak/soft eras he could win a belt or two - like he did - but in strong eras he would probably never even compete for a belt.
A 41 year old Lara...Jesus, get a Grip. And his 147 WBC title was for a vacant title...against fellow journeyman Ghost Guerrero...a guy who was 10-5 at WW whose best wins were beating Berto twice. Danny Garcia was NOTHING after 140. Please be serious
Even a 41 year old Lara is ranked at 160 and is the WBA full champion since GGG decided to give up his belt and is by far the biggest opponent Garcia has ever faced. I think you need to get a grip, as if Garcia is the only fighter who won a vacant belt, I'm honestly not even sure what you're arguing about, this isn't 2016, who in the hell is overrating Danny Garcia?
I'll always remember him for his highlight reel knockdown against Amir Khan and when he punched Matthysse when his torso was outside the ropes.
Very good fighter at 140, great chin and counter puncher but Lucas was facing not only Garcia in their fight he was also facing the ref and the judges and he was fighting one-eyed for much of the fight after getting thumbed in his other eye And ever so surprisingly (sarc) the home ref ruled a completely bogus KD in Garcia's favour too That six-toed lego hair freak doesn't beat Lucas on a level playing field
Very good counterpuncher and a problem for anyone at 140, but he didn’t have the height and reach to move up in weight effectively.
Against a one-eyed Lucas for much of the fight after thumbing him and with the home ref ruling a completely bogus KD in his favour
"You have to go back to friggin 2013" I assumed this was a bumped thread from then when I clicked out of curiosity. I can't remember the last time I have had a thought about Danny Garcia. I didn't think he was great but I rated him and thought he was a tough young lion in his day, and had to be at least p4p top 20 of the active fighters, maybe cracked ten validly for a little bit.
Odd fighter to make a thread about. He provided me with one of the FUNNEST EXPERIENCES on a boxing forum when all of the Matthysse fans were saying Lucas was gonna “body bag” Danny. They for some reason were acting so “hard” and “gangster”. Was awesome Oh boi, the amount of crow going around the next day……
Matthysse was once even more overated than Danny I quite like Garcia (except his trailerpark schoolboy haircut). He's been in some very entertaining fights and was very close to being an A- level fighter at 140 but his bubble didnt last long, he didnt stay sharp, he didnt fight enough and his peers overtook him He certainly hasnt done enough in my eyes to be HOF, but then 70% of HOF inductees over the last 20 years have no right being there if I was judging so make of that what you will
