Ok now I'm not going to jump to conclusions but some things Green has been involved in have seemed pretty suspicious to me. First he wins the fight against Roy Jones. Nothing wrong with that except after the fight it was said that he used illegal handwraps. Theres no visal footage of this claim so I'm not sure if it's true or not. Then when he fought Paul Briggs Briggs took a dive after not even being hit. Green gave some speech about how Briggs was a coward blah blah blah ect. Most people think that Briggs was the only one at fault but theres still reason to believe that both were in on it together. Again I'm not saying that any of this is set fact I'm just speculating. Your thoughts? And yes I'm aware that both fights are not that recent.
The Briggs fight was definetely a fix and im 95% sure Green was in on it as well. Other than that, I see no real basis for the handwrap accusation.
It seems to me these days Dannys just looking for retirement $$$ hes certainly not the prodigal australian son many of the part-time boxing fans think he is
i think the hand wraps was just rjj trying to retain some of his very damaged ego...the briggs thing though, that was awful
Danny is a bit of bullshitter and a hypocrite but I dont think he is an out and out cheat. He may have had his hands wrapped wrong but nothing seems to have come of that The whole Briggs debacle is very suspicious..I see no reason why Danny would be in on it though, it has really hurt his career and standing. He basically is taking on a dangerous unbeaten fair dinkum cruiserweight in an event he likely wont make as much as he has been just to get back some respect from his fans, especially in his home state. He could lose this next fight.
I don't buy that Green was in on any sort of fix against Briggs. It made him look like a total dick, and hurt his fanbase a lot. He could have "arranged" a 3rd round knockout and got almost as much dirty money doing so. That would have been far easier, and wouldn't have killed his reputation and earning potential. Now he is taking on a genuine threat, one who may well beat him stupid. I believe that he is doing so to prove himself. If he was nothing but a washed up joke and a cheat then I don't think he would have chosen to take on Flores. Green was humiliated by that farce against Briggs, and I don't think he liked it or planned it.
Briggs WAS a warrior. This man served Muay Thai and Boxing VERY well. Green on the other hand is an opportunistic ****. If he wants to make a career start beating up guys who can fight back. Not over the hill veterans.
God bless RJJ, but he was beaten fair and square. RJJ did lodge a complaint with the New South Wales sport atheletic commision but they found Green didn't have a case to answer to. His handwraps were cleared by the commission on the night in line with IBO rules. Green had his hands wrapped the exact same way as he did back in the fight he had in Biloxi (on the RJJ v Lacy card). Green is one of those "real as they get" type of blokes and I do not believe he was in on a fix. He had basically run out of marketable fighters who'd want to face him in Australia so he picked the only domestically marketable fighter available. Briggs on the other hand, I believe he took a dive. It should have been obvious when he was a couple of kilos over the weight limit that his heart wasn't into it. He needed the money and took the dive as an easy payday. The reason I believe Green changed his tune (from calling him a dog to "I hit him good") was because he was being investigated and would most likely have lost some of the prize money if a dive was proven. My thoughts on Green is he isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, but I think his heart is generally in the right place. I wouldn't expect him to screw over the fans, unlike a certain other Australian-based fighter who does this on a regular basis, as this video illustrates: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7JPnFd1OFY[/ame]
Don't know, Green-Briggs did look staged. My goodness and people complain about the end of Dirrell-Abraham Green-Briggs was WAY more unrealistic. Reminded me of WWE especially the way Green responded in the post-fight interview.
