You sid it. He obviously still belived he was in good enough condition in every aspect to arrange another fight. Obviously something has happened between then and now. So to simply say Im doing it for my family and friends well thats where it gets weak. If he thought he was capable back then (which wasnt that long ago) then he is certainly still capable now. All boxers have friends and family FFS, and Danny had Friends and Family way before he made this decision. IF you're going out like this at least give us a better reason than "friends or family"!
I think the reason he left was he just wasnt there mentally ... Like Tyson said i juts dont have the stomach for this anymore... Physically he said himself im at my peak... He said he sparred on Sat and every indication fromthat session was he was gettin better... This is all mental believe me
Sad day for aussie boxing. Regardless of the why, its done now and Im gutted Danny has called it quits.
a lightheavyweight world title fight is not the place to be if you are not 100% committed to the fight. It's OK for people to say give it one last try but only takes one good whack and he is stuffed up for the rest of his life. some people take forever to realise they need to retire green took seconds to realise it. phyically he is capable now Hmmmm but mentally he isn't there for the fight so he retired. lets move on
Yeah, as soon as I heard it I thought something must have happened - maybe he's injured himself training, maybe he's burnt himself out, maybe he's found out a close family member has a terminal illness, who knows? We're not entitled to know either, unless Green decides he wants the public to know.
Since the title is now vacant, the WBA should sanction Hopkins/Calzaghe as a title fight and pay mandatory Hugo Garay step aside money.
But really, what kind of a reason is that? His health is intact, and he's had his family and friends with him for a while now, and they'd still be there in 3 weeks time after the garay fight. Is he afraid he'gs going to cop a battering so bad that he'll forever be changed? It's pretty weak of him to go out like this, unless theres health issues, but from what we've been told that isn't the case. One week he's aiming for RJJ as a tune up, the next week he wants to retire. I don't think anyone can really defend him on this. And to think he had the hide to compare Mundine's heart to a tic tac
Mate nothing happened no hidden agendas it;s just like has been reported he woke up and felt he wasn't with it anymore and decided to retire. no more no less ( sillier then a clowns ****) I like that one
Wow. Funny how quickly people can question Green's heart when he's never displayed quitting abilities before. Maybe with the birth of his second child, he's realised he has more important things outside of the ring, and therefore he's not 100% mentally up for this fight? It wasn't so long ago we were hearing all about how Mundine's career was over with his eye injury - he certainly got plenty of mileage out of that, so much so that even now his eye is being used as an excuse for the calibre of his last couple of opponents. Every year Mundine says he's going to fight this bloke and that bloke, but always ends up fighting stumblebums and clubfoots instead. Every year Mundine says he's going to unify this division, and move up to that division, but he always ends up fighting bums in the same division. Green was right when he said Mundine had a heart the size of a tic tac.
Step to the rear. Green can retire whenever he pleases. He doesn't even need a reason. He's in the toughest, hardest sport in the world so he deserves to go out any way he wants.
