As it was a high profile bout - it was for a world title. I reckon if Hussien had of gone to the IBO, or even the press, and said Briggsy was absolutely shot to bits, the bout would have been stopped one way or another.

In this case - Hussien could have put a stop to it if he'd wanted to - but he knew how badly Briggsy needed the money!

This I definitely agree with. I feel sorry for Briggs, his life turned upside down so fast...

Isn't this why Jeff Fenech pulled the pin before the fight?

I remember Fenech saying to the paper that Briggs was in no fit state and would get beaten by Green..... Only problem is Jeff's got zero credability so everyone just fogged it off.

Yeah, a lot of speculation and opinion in the articles you posted TC, but as I've said before, there's really no damning evidence in amongst it all - apart from the findings of the Commission - which several posters have claimed to be meaningless due to corruption/arse covering anyway - and mention of gang members being involved in placing large last-minute bets on a first round KO victory to Green.

We all saw what happened, we all formed our own opinions on it - I personally believe Briggs took a dive - as disappointing as that is to acknowledge as he was a favourite of mine along with Green back in his day.

I don't believe Green was involved in an arrangement for Briggs to take a dive, I think Briggs did it off his own back and hadn't told anyone else he was going to do it.

I don't think Billy Hussein knew he was going to do it, I think Hussein probably turned a bit of a blind eye to Briggs condition during prep for the fight due to Briggs reputation and esteem on the Aussie boxing scene, knowing he was after a payday but assuming he would give it a red hot go, as he had in all of his previous fights.

How people got wind of a possible dive in order to load up betting on a first round KO to Green I don't know - anything I put forward on this would be pure speculation on my part:
    • Perhaps someone in Briggs' camp spread word that he was incapable of lasting one round with Green?
    • Perhaps someone in Briggs' camp was privy to the knowledge that Briggs was intending to take a dive?
    • Perhaps Briggs owed these gang members money and used this as a way of paying them off?
Like I said, pure speculation that cannot be proven - it isn't a fact that Briggs took a dive, it certainly looked like he did, and I believe he did, but I can't prove it. Even the commission can't prove it, all they can prove is that Briggs was not fit to fight Green, based on medical evidence - they declared that Briggs entered into a 'sham contest' because he didn't fully disclose his medical condition, not because he took a dive. That in itself shows you how hard it would be to prove Briggs took a dive - unless they could turn up a witness with evidence (such as a recorded conversation in which Briggs clearly states he intended to take a dive).

It can't be proven that anyone in Briggs camp, or Briggs himself, tipped anyone off to his apparent/alleged intention to take a dive.

I believe Green's anger immediately afterwards was genuine. I think Green's about-face the following day was due to later receiving legal advice from his team - until it could be proven that Briggs took a dive, Green could possibly have been open to charges of libel and slander for publicly declaring that Briggs took a dive if Briggs had chosen to file them.

Of course, we can all join the dots based on what we saw and have heard about the fight, but none of us know what really happened, and the opinion we each form on the matter pretty much comes down to how much of an imagination, agenda and penchant for conspiracy theories each of us has.

What do you mean the IBO look disgraceful in all of this?!? No they don't, they just look like the IBO. That'll teach you to think they where any thing more and put 'em up on a pedistool.

I know which offer I would be taking if I were Garth Wood...

BIG money over the top of Choc's offer will always spoil a plan ;)

It'll have to be BIG money when considering the figure thrashed about for Garth, vs Mundine II.

You hinting that Green might tackle Garth, before Wood/Mundine II? :blood

    Signed, Interested. :D
