I can't agree with your last sentence.
A pro boxer doesn't automatically command respect because of their profession.
One still needs to earn respect and just generally be a decent human being.
In fact no job title or status commands respect. I've always believed that good morals, ethics, and just basic common decency earns respect.

One boxer who has just been discussed over the last few days will probably never earn my respect and likely many others. His behavior in the ring has caused a lot of grief and has been pretty disgusting.
I'm not sure why you should need to respect him just because he's a pro boxer.

As far as the 'redneck' and 'bogan' comments, I largely ignore that **** anyway.
I support the fighters I like, and it doesn't have anything to do with where they come from.

Mate to compare perth's culture to say melbourne is a bit of a joke.please explain how perth remotely comes close to melbournes's multicultural look and feel.? I live in perth and are sick to death of all the the **** off we're full stickers , southern cross tats and over the top aussie flag waving from every second car around jan and feb, Go back and have a look how these dickheads acted when mundine fought in perth . You must be blind or havnt spent much time around australia to see perth is the new bogan capital with brisbane a close second.

the introduction of niche bars and inner city living, combined with that of fashion trends is how i compare it. You must live in a lower socio economic suburb then, i live in the western suburbs and i dont really see any of that , although when i do it makes me cringe. As was said before, its not focused on one city, theres dickheads everywhere, its like the stereotype that all people in sydney are racist because of the cronulla riots, you cant just group a city of people into one category

 

Ive lived in scarborough,hillarys and now kalamunda and as you would now they are not lower socio economic suburbs. elwood shirts and mullets are hardly a trend that puts perth on the map for fashion. The city is like a ****en ghost town at night (northbrigde excluded)On saturday try and get a coffee and a feed after 2 pm , Sunday dont get me started. how about architecture or cultural back ground/ethnic mix ?

 

no id call them mid range, scarborough has a fair few homeswest houses though which brings the area down. Hillarys is closer to some poorer suburbs which affect it negatively, i beg to differ, how does the city being dead at night make it boganville? go to leederville, claremont, fremantle , subiaco , hell even trigg , wembley , all of these places have strips full of cafes and pubs serving food all day. Architecture in the city is ****ing terrible but again thats due to poor planning and infrastructure initiatives, hardly the fault of bogans and rednecks. I suppose we've had different experiences.

 

So we agree i havnt and dont live in perth's poorer suberbs. there are **** loads of million dollar houses in scabs and hillarys not to mention next door the house is for sale $930k ( kalamunda )if thats the slums then you must be" living next door to alan". You stated that perth culturally is like melbourne because of inner city living etc but all the places you mention arnt in the city. I never said perth was boganville becuase of buildings etc but because of the people who live here .Anyway thats how I feel about living in perth and we will have to agree to disagree...cheers
