I would say Roy Jones is a good example. Hes been somewhat competitive and successful in his 40+ age just needs to be matched properly. Hes basically been an exhibition since the loss to Tarver. Cruiserweight was a bad move, regardless of the skill level, Jones tried to block his punch in the corner and it still f*cked him up. He just doesnt have the speed to get away from those big shots that he almost never took in his prime.
Yeah but I dont think Jones can handle those big guys anymore. Look at B-Hop, it took him some time to KO smaller guys so he may still be able to be competitive in a boxing match againt Hopkins. Id still tune in if it wasnt PPV or maybe half price.:yep
Your funny. Styles make fights, when has Hopkins blown anyone out? If Jones can box with Trinidad, lacy and Calzahge, he can box with Hopkins. Glenn Johnson was the same thing as Green, big strong physical guy. Hopkins is physical but hes old and doesnt punch all that hard. Of course he needs to retire, so does Hopkins and Holyfield, but who cares let them fight, at least its something entertaining to watch.
I think they stopped it a bit quick due to the magnatude but in all due respect Jones was not fighting back. Green did well going in aggressive early
Green to me isn't that big of a guy and a decent puncher at best. Hopkins's power certainly got the respect of Pavlik and Calzaghe so I think it would be enough to finish off a now evidently china-chinned Roy Jones. The punch that all but finished off Roy didn't even land flush. He made Green look like the new coming of George Foreman in there which is far from the truth.
Muhammed ali was still fighting and winning at world level in his mid thirties against guys like shavers, frazier and spinks, even against holmes and berbick he wasnt sparked with one shot or stopped easily. Jones has been trounced quite a few times in his thirties, starting with mister tarver, and ending with monsieur green. He hasnt won any world title affairs since then, nor has he beat anyone of note. I think people are confusing guys campaigning sucessfully at world level when older,eg hopkins, robinson etc,and others just hanging around beating lesser guys but getting outclassed by top guys,eg jones,moorer....
:huh Are you serious? Bernard Hopkins is still one of the best fighters in the world. He's coming off one of his greatest ever performances against an undefeated, P4P rated guy. He isn't in the same boat as an inactive Tito Trinidad, or a shot to peices Jeff Lacy. Jones Jr needs to retire, Hopkins would give him his worst ever schooling over 12 long hard rounds. "At least its something entertaining to watch". Watching once great fighters getting knocked out and embarrassed? You're done.
Green was a different fight and Roy got hit early but they should have let the fight go on a bit, even though he was not punching back. Still Roy would still be competitve with HOP and possibly beat him. I know it sounds crazy but neither man are pressure fighters and they do not like pressure. I would pay to see a fight between Jones and B-Hop and I lean towards B-Hop but would not be suprised if Roy takes it. Styles make fights
I know but look where the punch landed. It looks like Jones went into the corner with his hands up and Green landed behind his gloves right on the temple. That was a pretty clean shot. I think if he fights B-Hop it would be closer to supermiddle, 168.
Jones covered up well, It was an awkward punch behind the ear, shakes up your balance. It suprised Jones but he was not out of it.
So it seems. It's like the people who think Tyson could clean out the heavyweight division even now. If this fight didn't convince people that Jones is shot then nothing will. There's no way Hopkins vs Jones II would be competitive unless Hopkins himself has declined and struggles against Ornelas.
