Agree with most of what you've said, but wasn't Garay a mandatory? If so, Green had to beat Garay to be in a position to defend the title against RJJ, or anyone else.

Yeah, he was a mandatory, and part of the deal Green made to score a fight with Drews was that Sauderland(sp?) had control over his next fight(s?).

Whatever way you look at it, Green would have been in a better position to earn much more money back then than he is now.

I agree with the poster who implied that Green has Mandy-itis. Mundine is still very much his sole focus, same as it's been for a while now.
Whatever ambition Green had in boing died when he experienced a so called epithany.

The thing is just how much will Green earn from a Roy Jones fight because i would imagine that they would have to pay Roy a very large sum to come out to Australia for the fight.

i watched the press conference today . I thought the press conference was initially to plug Jones Jnr v Lacy and Danny's IBO Cruizerweight shot v Riguera...as Green v Jones is " in the works" but it came of like promoting Danny Green v Jones Jnr as a definate thing regardless of Jones Jnr v Lacy outcome.

green obviously would not risk a payday like Jones Jnr on a tough fight so thus the opponent he is facing and it gives him a "world title" .

I think Green fights jones even if jones gets comfortably beaten by Lacy ...otherwise why not say he is going to fight the winner ?

the way they where talking was that its a lock . I think RJJ even mentioned something about " cannot wait to get to australia" .

Its very dangerous though for fighters to be looking towards future fights and not the one at hand..green has to be careful or it may come unstuck.

The fact that Green didnt even realise the fight had been changed to Missisippi until RJJ spoke up at the end of the presser shows this.

The way i see it why waste money on a press conference for a fight that "could potentially happen" or "might happen" ....where was Dominguez via satellite or with a translator.

Inbruman- It's not about being scared of Garay but one of maybe not thinking you can beat him inside the ropes. You know history is not kind to fighters who won the belt & lost it in their 1st defense. Danny knows quite well he could of joined this list. So he retires on top. What a crock. If he was fairdinkum about a comeback he should of fought a top ranked fighter instead of a vans who givesa****.

Mundine will claim he was the reason Roy came down.

RJJ will outpoint Green over 12rds without breaking out in a sweat, i actually thought he looked ok in his last fight against Omar Sheik (sic)

i think the only way for Danny to silence the critics regarding his retirement is to beat Garay....

there have been alot of rumours why he "really" retired

ive heard - contract he wanted to get out of
    - wanted to preserve his legacy
    - sell more autobiographys as a "retired" fighter rather than current fighter.

only Danny knows the reason....i personally dont think Danny retired to duck anyone or any of the reasons above...maybe he was just over boxing. I mean he won a legit world title , has earnt millions , maybe he just didnt want to do it anymore...It is hard to motivate urself when you have achieved the things u want...but then when he had some time away realised he missed it.

I no the reason he gave looks bad when u come back out of retirement less than a year later..but as i said earlier only Danny can answer that . Has he ever been pressed on it since coming back???

Is Dominguez the current IB0 belt holder or is it vacant?

The IBO certainly know how to make a title fight. :D

i agree...IBO missed the boat here sanctioning Dominguez for a vacant title & Green fighting in a weight class he has never legitimately fought at before.

IBO is weird....its "money" belts are held by top fighters Pac-man , Hatton before , Dawson etc.

But then alot of its belts are fought for by Aussies.

Dib won IBO v Morali . Dawson v Geale for IBO Middleweight Belt . Darchinyan won IBO in fight after k/o by Donaire.
Danny now for Cruiser. Sakio holds Super Middleweight.....does the IBO have Aussies in the right places or something.

I heard talk also that Dib v Asiku for vacant IBO on the forums weeks ago also...

Both fighters not rated in the IBO top 100. But they fight for the vacant strap.

Maybe we can pull up the Ndou v Ndou IBO title fight thread to make sense of how they sanctioned this one for the vacant belt.

Anyway, it's a shot in the arm for Oz boxing. We can be happy about that.

Although I am a little perturbed that the supposedly biggest fight in Australian history will be contested between a has been and a never was (that good) for a belt that most people wouldn't have heard of. :patsch

I don't think they missed the boat Kegsy. They are filling the boat! :rofl
As soon as they knew Green would defend against Roy, they would have sanctioned Dominguez/Green in a heart beat.

This Dominguez guy still looks like he can throw a punch and they both have a similar come forward style so I think it will make for a good fight, he might not be a name.. but it could still be a good fight.

And I'd be happy to see Green fight RJJ. **** the guys a legend and although he might be a shell of his former self, it would still be a good show.
